The Bühlmann Decompression 02 is a limited-edition Swiss mechanical dive watch that displays decompression-stop times for 17 specified recreational dive profiles. Its rotating dial and separate timing bezels are designed as an analog backup to a dive computer—not a replacement for one or a universal decompression calculator.

What is the Bühlmann Decompression 02?

Made by Bühlmann Watches, the Decompression 02 translates selected decompression-table information into a mechanical wristwatch. The company says its concept draws on the work of Swiss physician Prof. Albert A. Bühlmann and his ZH-L16 decompression model. The brand describes the watch as an instrument to complement a digital dive computer.

In a company-published article, CEO Guido Benedini put that role plainly: “The Decompression 02 was designed to complement dive computers, not to compete with them.”

How the decompression display works

Choose one of the stated profiles

Bühlmann Watches says the rotating lower dial presents decompression-stop times for 17 “Golden Zone” recreational profiles. The stated scope is single-tank dives up to 39 metres, at altitudes from 0 to 700 metres above sea level. The user selects a profile with the right crown, after which the display shows the associated decompression-stop information.

  • Seamless Device Integration: Pair your dive computer watch with iOS and Android devices for comprehensive dive tracking. Whether you're analyzing autumn dives from your smartphone or tablet, cross-platform compatibility ensures seamless connectivity
  • Efficient Data Management: Transfer dive logs easily with USB and infrared capabilities, allowing for detailed analysis. Even as the fall season introduces new diving conditions, managing your scuba diving computer data remains efficient and thorough

That scope matters: the display is tied to a defined set of profiles, not every possible depth, dive plan, or set of conditions. A diver should not assume the watch has a matching profile for a planned dive simply because it displays decompression stops.

Track dive time and stop time separately

The Twin Safety Bezel separates total dive-time tracking from decompression-stop timing. In the manufacturer’s described procedure, the diver sets the total-dive-time bezel before entering the water and uses it to track bottom time. A separate outer scale is used to time stops. The two bezels are intended to turn in different directions to reduce the risk of accidental movement in an unsafe direction. The company also describes the seconds hand as a way to monitor ascent rate.

Set the fly/no-fly indicator after the dive

The watch includes a fly/no-fly indicator. Bühlmann Watches says the diver sets it after surfacing and waits for the indicator to reach the green zone; the brand’s homepage gives a 36–48-hour interval. This is the manufacturer’s description of the indicator, not individualized advice about when a particular diver can safely fly.

What the watch can—and cannot—tell you

A mechanical display can make selected table information available without relying on an electronic screen, but the manufacturer’s stated coverage is limited to its 17 profiles. The product information does not establish that the watch can calculate a custom profile or cover every dive. It should not be treated as a substitute for a current dive computer or for dive planning appropriate to the specific dive.
