The Casio G-Shock DW-5000R-1A is a modern re-creation of the original 1983 DW-5000C, announced on November 28, 2024. It keeps signature details such as a stainless-steel center case, screw-lock back and closely reproduced band, while adding a high-brightness LED and bio-based resin bezel and band. It is a faithful design revival, not a dimension-for-dimension copy: its case is 42.3 mm wide, compared with 41.6 mm for the original.
What is the Casio G-Shock DW-5000R-1A?
Casio describes the DW-5000R as a re-creation of the first G-SHOCK, the DW-5000C, released in 1983. The company announced the model on November 28, 2024, presenting it as a standard lineup re-creation rather than a limited-edition anniversary release. Casio’s announcement says it re-creates the original “with meticulous faithfulness.”
The specific model name on Casio’s US product page is DW-5000R-1A, although that page also styles it as DW5000R-1A. Use the full model number when comparing listings: a related-looking 5000-series G-SHOCK is not necessarily this revival. Product naming and details can vary by region, so check the Casio page for your market.
Which original design details does it preserve?
The revival retains several visual and construction cues associated with the DW-5000C. It has a stainless-steel center case and a screw-lock case back engraved “Shock Resistant.” Red, blue and yellow face accents echo the original’s look.

- DW-5000 ORIGIN Revival
Casio says it reproduced the original band’s length and form, as well as the unevenness around the band holes and the placement of its dimples. The company also says the watch is made at Yamagata Casio, the factory where the original was made. These are manufacturer descriptions of the design and production, not independent assessments.
What has changed from the DW-5000C?
The DW-5000R keeps the vintage-inspired design but uses contemporary materials and lighting. Casio specifies bio-based resin for the bezel and band, and a high-brightness LED backlight. Its case width is 42.3 mm, 0.7 mm wider than the original DW-5000C’s 41.6 mm, so the proportions are close rather than identical.

Who should consider this revival?
- Choose it for the design lineage if you want a modern G-SHOCK that deliberately recalls the original DW-5000C, including the steel center case, screw-lock back and reproduced band details.
- Check wrist fit before buying by comparing your wrist measurement with Casio’s stated 145–205 mm compatible band range and considering the 42.3 mm case width.
- Look closely at the materials if you specifically want an all-metal exterior: the center case is stainless steel, but the bezel and band are bio-based resin.
- Confirm the exact model as DW-5000R-1A on your regional Casio page or an accurately identified retailer listing, especially when shopping among similar 5000-series designs.
- Decide how much historical fidelity matters: the revival reproduces notable visual details but adds modern components and differs slightly in case width.
