Its standout is the design package, not onboard GPS: distance is measured by the watch’s accelerometer and can be adjusted using GPS from a paired phone. The details below are based on Casio’s specifications; no independent wear test or accuracy test is available here.
What makes the DW-H5600EX-1 different?
The EX is a design-focused package in Casio’s G-SHOCK G-SQUAD 5600 fitness-watch line. It comes with the watch in a black configuration with a metal bezel, plus an alternate bezel and band. Casio’s default design uses drafting-line artwork inspired by the original DW-5000C drawings; the alternate set has colorful graphics referencing the DW-5600’s circuit board. Casio says the drawings refer to the first G-SHOCK, the DW-5000C, developed by Kikuo Ibe.
The interchangeable parts let you switch between those looks. Casio lists replacement band and bezel categories, but a specific standalone part number and its compatibility with the EX should be confirmed before ordering.
Does the DW-H5600EX-1 have GPS?
No built-in GPS is specified. The watch uses its accelerometer to capture distance data; Casio says GPS from a paired smartphone can adjust that data. You therefore need your phone for this GPS-based distance correction. If you need distance tracking from GPS without carrying a phone, the official specifications do not establish that the DW-H5600EX-1 can provide it.

What fitness and health functions does it offer?
Casio specifies an optical wrist sensor for heart-rate measurement and an accelerometer for step and activity measurements. Listed activities include running, walking, gym workouts and interval training. Other functions include sleep analysis, breathing exercises, blood-oxygen measurement, activity logs and training analysis using Polar algorithms. The MIP LCD is the watch’s display type.
Casio cautions that blood-oxygen measurement is not intended to diagnose specific diseases. Treat it as a general wellness feature, not a medical measurement or substitute for professional care.

How long does the battery last?
Casio Europe’s estimates, accessed in 2026, vary substantially by operating mode. They are manufacturer estimates from a full charge without solar power, and Casio says actual duration depends on the usage environment.
| Mode | Casio’s estimate | Qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Activity functions with heart-rate measurement | Up to approximately 35 hours | Casio Europe estimate from full charge without solar power; actual duration varies by use environment. |
| Watch mode, heart-rate measurement off | Approximately one month | Casio Europe estimate from full charge without solar power; actual duration varies by use environment. |
| Power-saving mode | Approximately 11 months | Casio Europe estimate from full charge without solar power; actual duration varies by use environment. |
The activity estimate is the relevant figure for frequent workouts with heart-rate tracking; the longer estimates apply to less demanding modes. Solar assistance does not remove the need to charge the fitness and smart functions by cable.

How does charging work?
The DW-H5600EX-1 combines solar power with USB charging through a dedicated cable. Casio specifies that the cable requires a device with a Type-A USB terminal. Its catalog estimates about three hours of charging for roughly one week of continuous operation when used for an hour a day; this is a stated scenario, not a universal charging guarantee.
Casio says that when battery power runs low, solar charging powers time display only; training and smart features rely on USB charging. Solar charging conditions are specific to the lighting environment, so do not assume ordinary indoor light will maintain every function.

How large and durable is it?
With the metal bezel attached, Casio lists dimensions of 51.1 × 44.5 × 16.6 mm and a weight of 65 g. These figures describe the metal-bezel configuration, not necessarily the feel of the watch with the alternate bezel fitted. Casio also specifies shock resistance and 20-bar water resistance.

The EX makes the most sense if you value the metal-bezel look and want the alternate artwork and band in the same package. The DW-H5600 line’s core fitness features are not unique to this edition, so the key distinction is the included design and interchangeable hardware rather than a different GPS system or a demonstrated performance advantage.
