The Casio G-Shock GMW-B5000D-1 keeps the familiar square G-Shock shape but replaces the resin exterior with a stainless-steel case, bezel and bracelet. Its headline trade-off is clear from the specifications: this is a substantial 167 g watch, with solar charging, radio time adjustment and Bluetooth added to the metal construction. Casio lists a 49.3 × 43.2 × 13 mm case and 200-meter water resistance; those are manufacturer specifications, not independent measurements.
What is the GMW-B5000D-1?
The GMW-B5000D-1 is the stainless-steel, full-metal take on G-Shock’s square design. Casio says the GMW-B5000 series inherits the shape of the DW-5000C, the original G-Shock model from 1983. The metal treatment gives the classic format a more substantial, bracelet-watch presence, while the watch retains G-Shock’s shock-resistance claim and practical digital functions.
Casio describes the construction as a sturdy stainless-steel bezel and case with shock-resistant fine resin cushioning inserted between them. It also says high-density mounting technology helps maintain the watch’s size. In other words, “full metal” describes the visible case and bracelet, not a completely metal shock-protection structure.
Size, weight and construction
Casio’s current product specification lists dimensions of 49.3 × 43.2 × 13 mm and a weight of 167 g. These figures indicate a broad, relatively thick watch with appreciable mass, but they do not establish how it will sit or feel on a particular wrist. Fit depends on wrist shape, bracelet sizing and personal tolerance for weight; try it on if possible before buying.
#1 Best Overall
- Case size (L× W× H): 49.3 × 43.6 × 13 mm
- Customizable four display modes
The stainless-steel bracelet has a one-touch three-fold clasp. Casio says its dimple processing echoes the design of the original resin band. The screw-lock back is DLC treated, which Casio describes as a wear-resistance treatment. That description is not a promise that the finish cannot scratch, and the available specifications do not establish how visible wear develops with use.
Features and timekeeping
The GMW-B5000D-1 combines Tough Solar charging with two listed time-adjustment methods: Multi-Band 6 radio reception and Bluetooth mobile link through the CASIO WATCHES app. Radio reception depends on location, and availability should not be assumed everywhere. Check Casio’s regional information and the app’s current compatibility details for your phone before relying on either feature.

- World time: Casio lists coverage across 39 time zones.
- Timing: stopwatch and countdown timer.
- Display: full auto LED backlight and a six-language day display.
- Glass: mineral glass.
- Protection: shock resistance and 200-meter water resistance, as specified by Casio.
These are listed capabilities, not independent test results. A 200-meter rating is a product specification; it does not by itself explain every use condition or substitute for following Casio’s care guidance.
What the specifications can—and cannot—tell you
The listed weight and dimensions make heft and wrist fit important things to assess, but there is no hands-on comfort test here. Likewise, the available information does not establish how easy the bracelet is to resize, how readable the display is in different lighting, how convenient the controls and app feel in daily use, or how the finish holds up to scratches. Those are sensible points to check in person or through a review based on direct use rather than assume from the materials list.

The same evidence limit applies to value. The specifications explain what the watch offers, but no current regional price or comparable model pricing is established here. A meaningful comparison with resin G-Shocks or other metal square watches needs exact model specifications and current prices for the buyer’s market.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Is the GMW-B5000D-1 worth considering?
It is a strong candidate for someone who specifically wants the square G-Shock design in stainless steel and values solar charging plus radio and Bluetooth time adjustment. The decision is less straightforward if low weight, an easily judged bracelet fit, proven display legibility or price-to-value comparison matters most: the specifications alone cannot settle those questions. Before purchasing, confirm the exact reference, try the watch on if possible, and check current local pricing and service details.
