The Casio G-Shock GMW-B5000V-1 is a full-metal square watch with a deliberately distressed black finish: Casio applies black ion plating, then partly removes it to create an aged appearance. Announced on May 15, 2019, it combines that vintage-style treatment with the GMW-B5000 family’s documented functions, including solar charging, radio timekeeping and Bluetooth smartphone linking. This is a model overview based on Casio’s published descriptions, not a first-person wear test.
What is the GMW-B5000V aged IP finish?
“Aged IP” means aged ion plating. Casio says it applies black ion plating to the case and band, then partly removes the coating through proprietary aging processing. The worn-looking effect is intentional from the factory; it is not a claim that the watch has accumulated accidental scratches or years of use. Casio describes the result as a vintage look.
The treatment gives the GMW-B5000V a different appearance from a uniformly coated or conventionally polished full-metal square. The contrast comes from the deliberately varied finish rather than a different basic silhouette. Casio’s May 15, 2019 announcement called the model a special version based on the full-metal GMW-B5000D, retaining the square shape. Casio’s announcement is a company statement, not a named individual’s quotation.
Is the GMW-B5000V full metal?
Yes. Casio identifies the GMW-B5000V as a full-metal model, with the aged black ion-plated finish applied to the case and band. It belongs to the GMW-B5000 family, Casio’s metal-bodied evolution of the square G-SHOCK design associated with the DW-5000C. Casio dates the first G-SHOCK, the DW-5000C, to 1983.

Metal construction does not mean the watch is simply a conventional metal case with no shock-management design. Casio says the family’s full-metal structure was redesigned because stainless-steel parts have greater mass and can produce stronger shocks in a drop.
How does the full-metal GMW-B5000 handle shocks?
Casio describes several parts of the GMW-B5000 family’s shock-resistant construction. Fine-resin cushioning between the bezel and inner case helps absorb impact, while a three-pronged band connection is intended to distribute it. Casio also describes a button structure that protects button shafts and a screw-lock case back with DLC treatment.

These are Casio’s explanations of the family design, not independent test results. The Connected App Guide’s GMW-B5000V-1 example includes structural illustrations that identify some components as shown on the GMW-B5000D-1. Accordingly, the construction details are best read as family context rather than a separate verification of every engineering feature specifically on the V-1.
What features does the GMW-B5000V have?
Casio’s GMW-B5000 family materials describe the following systems and functions. The Connected App Guide’s GMW-B5000V-1 example lists many of them for that model example; exact specifications can differ by regional model suffix, so consult the manual matching the watch being considered.

- Enhance your style with some seriously sophisticated timekeeping from the 5000 line
- Directly descended from the first-ever G-SHOCK , the GMW-BZ5000 carries on the evolution of function and material in a transformative, unprecedented design
- They kept the iconic form of the original G-SHOCK, while developing a new structure that extends the case all the way to the lugs to even further mitigate shock transmission
| Feature | What Casio documents |

Current stock and pricing are not established by Casio’s cited materials. Casio’s regional editorial notes that listed models can be limited to particular markets or out of production, so the 2019 announcement should not be taken as evidence that the V-1 is still sold new. If you are shopping for one, confirm the exact model suffix, condition and seller; distinguish the V-1’s aged-IP treatment from other GMW-B5000 variants, and check the relevant regional manual for its specifications.

Who is this model for?
The GMW-B5000V-1 is most distinctive for someone who wants the recognizable square G-SHOCK shape in a full-metal configuration but prefers a factory-aged black finish to a uniform surface. Its core appeal is visual character paired with Casio’s documented GMW-B5000 functions. Buyers who prioritize pristine polish, a plain finish or verified current-market pricing should compare actual listings and condition carefully rather than assume all GMW-B5000 variants are interchangeable.
For the family’s construction and function overview, see Casio Europe’s GMW-B5000 page. Casio’s regional GMW-B5000 feature identifies the V-1 as black aged IP and notes regional model limitations. The G-SHOCK Connected App Guide provides the V-1 example feature list.
