The Casio G-Shock GMW-B5000V pairs the full-metal square platform of the GMW-B5000D with a black ion-plated finish that Casio partly removes to make the watch look aged. That treatment is the main reason to choose it: the published feature set is shared with its base model, while the distinctive appearance is manufactured rather than the result of years of wear. Casio’s 2019 specifications also make it a sizeable, substantial watch at approximately 167 g. Whether it is worth seeking out depends on how much you value that finish—and what condition and price a current seller can substantiate.
What makes the GMW-B5000V different?
Casio announced the GMW-B5000V on May 15, 2019, as a special model based on the full-metal GMW-B5000D. The case and band receive black ion plating, and Casio says some of that plating is removed to create a distinctive aged appearance. Special packaging was designed to match the theme. The watch is meant to look as though it has seen long use; that look is an intentional factory treatment, not natural patina or evidence of years of wear.
The V’s appeal is therefore primarily visual. Casio says it retains the base model’s features, including Bluetooth connectivity and radio-wave time calibration. The official announcement describes the design as “based on the full metal construction GMW-B5000D with a square shape.” Casio’s May 15, 2019 announcement is the primary source for the exact-model details.

Casio’s approximately 22-month power-reserve figure assumes a full charge and power saving enabled. In that mode, the display turns off after the watch has been left in darkness for a period.
What functions does it offer?
Timekeeping and smartphone link
The radio receiver supports automatic time calibration up to six times a day, or up to five times daily in China. Casio lists supported time-signal frequencies for Germany, the UK, the US, Japan, and China. The Bluetooth Low Energy connection has a stated communication range of up to 2 m, which Casio notes may vary with surroundings.

- Case size (L× W× H): 49.3 × 43.6 × 13 mm
- Customizable four display modes
The published smartphone functions include automatic time adjustment, easy watch setting, world-time settings, a time-and-place function, reminders, and a phone finder. Because those details come from the 2019 release, check current CASIO WATCHES app availability and phone compatibility before buying if smartphone features matter to you.
World time, stopwatch, and alarms
- World time: Five selected times from 39 cities or time zones, plus UTC; daylight-saving on/off, city display, and home/world-time switching.
- Stopwatch: 1/100-second timing below one hour and one-second units thereafter, with elapsed-time, split-time, and first/second-place modes.
- Countdown timer: One-second units, up to 24 hours.
- Alarms: Five daily alarms, one with snooze, plus an hourly time signal.
Display and other features
Casio also lists a full auto-calendar, selectable 12/24-hour format, multilingual weekday display, and a full-auto LED backlight with afterglow. These digital functions make the V more than a cosmetic metal-square variant, although they are not unique to its aged finish.

- They kept the iconic form of the original G-SHOCK, while developing a new structure that extends the case all the way to the lugs to even further mitigate shock transmission
How does it compare with other GMW-B5000 models?
Casio describes the V as based on the GMW-B5000D and says it shares that model’s features. The clear published distinction is the V’s aged black ion-plated treatment and matching packaging. A different reference can have a different band, weight, dimensions, or finish, so “GMW-B5000” alone is not enough to establish that two listings describe equivalent watches.
| Reference | Band and finish information | Published dimensions and weight | Published feature relationship |
|---|---|---|---|
| GMW-B5000V | Full-metal case and band; black ion plating partly removed for an aged look | 49.3 × 43.2 × 13.0 mm; approximately 167 g (Casio, 2019) | Based on GMW-B5000D; Casio says it retains the base model’s features |
| GMW-B5000-1JF | Resin band, according to Casio Japan | 49.3 × 43.2 × 13 mm; 96 g (Casio Japan product page) | Not established as identical to the V in materials or configuration |
The GMW-B5000-1JF comparison illustrates why the V’s 167 g figure should not be confused with the 96 g listed for a resin-band reference. It is not a direct finish-for-finish comparison with the full-metal GMW-B5000D. For the resin model’s own specifications, see Casio Japan’s GMW-B5000-1JF page.

Is the GMW-B5000V worth considering?
It makes the most sense for someone who specifically wants a full-metal square with a deliberately distressed-looking black treatment and wants the broad digital toolset Casio lists. If the aged finish is not a priority, the V’s own announcement gives little functional reason to prefer it over the GMW-B5000D on features alone. The published sources establish the look and specifications, but do not establish that the finish resists scratches better—or worse—than another coating, or how the watch wears on the wrist.
The 2019 announcement calls the V a “special model,” not a limited edition. It does not establish present-day stock, price, or rarity. Treat current buying conditions as listing-specific rather than assuming the watch is unavailable or collectible.

No live inventory, current price, or authenticated dealer listing is established here. Before purchasing, assess the individual watch and seller rather than relying on the model name or aged appearance alone.
- Seller and listing: Check the seller’s reputation, return terms, and whether the listing identifies the exact GMW-B5000V reference.
- Condition: Ask for clear photographs and a condition description. Since the factory finish is intentionally partly removed, distinguish its designed pattern from additional damage or later wear.
- Included items: Confirm whether the themed packaging, bracelet links, and other items shown or promised are included.
- Function and support: Confirm the watch’s operating condition and, if Bluetooth matters, check current phone and CASIO WATCHES app compatibility.
Casio’s GMW-B5000V-1 support page for India confirms the model identity and provides support context, but does not establish retail availability. Casio’s G-Shock India GMW-B5000 family page and Casio US GMW-B5000 family page offer series-level background; for the V’s exact features, rely on its 2019 announcement.
