What is the Casio GMW-BZ5000?
The GMW-BZ5000 is a full-metal G-SHOCK in the familiar 5000-series shape, updated with a full-dot MIP LCD and a redesigned metal exterior. Casio describes it as the first full-metal G-SHOCK to use an MIP LCD. The display is solar powered, and the watch also pairs Bluetooth Smartphone Link with radio-wave time calibration. Casio Europe identifies the radio feature as Multiband 6.
Casio Computer Co., Ltd. says the screen is designed for high contrast, a wide viewing angle and easier reading in direct sunlight. Those are manufacturer claims: the cited launch and product material does not include independent hands-on testing or comparative measurements.
When did the GMW-BZ5000 launch?
Casio announced the GMW-BZ5000 globally on November 4, 2025, and its international product material lists shipment in November 2025. A Casio Japan developer interview gives November 14, 2025 as the release date in Japan. That date should not be treated as a universal launch date; availability and release timing vary by market.

What does the MIP display change?
MIP means memory-in-pixel, a type of LCD. On this watch, Casio’s full-dot screen offers four time-mode layouts that arrange information such as dual or triple time, date, day and year. Using the CASIO WATCHES app, owners can switch the main display font between STANDARD and CLASSIC; CLASSIC is intended to evoke the familiar seven-segment style.

The practical distinction is that this is not simply a new color treatment for the usual display: the screen is the central interface update, with selectable layouts and fonts. Casio says the MIP panel is high-definition, high-contrast and readable from an angle and in direct sun. Those descriptions are not backed by independent comparisons in the cited sources.
How has Casio redesigned the metal case?
Casio says the bezel and center case connect at the top and bottom, changing the construction of its usual full-metal arrangement. A resilient resin internal protector deforms to absorb shocks. The exterior uses a two-tone treatment to distinguish the front from the sides and draw attention to the bezel and center-case structure.

Casio also says it used AI analysis and simulations informed by more than 40 years of accumulated G-SHOCK shock-resistance data while developing the structure and exterior. This is Casio’s account of its design process, not independent validation of either the process or the watch’s performance. The company lists a screw-lock case back, four front screws and a three-pronged lug connection; its product material says the watch is manufactured at Yamagata Casio in Japan.

Choose by the finish and reference you want: D-1 for silver, BD-1 for black or GD-9 for gold. Casio identifies the black and gold models as ion plated; its cited product description does not label the silver one ion plated. The available material does not establish a functional or durability advantage for any finish. Verify the precise model number and regional listing before ordering.
