The Casio G-Shock Gravitymaster GPW-2000 is a large, solar-powered analog aviation watch with GPS time and position functions, Multi-Band 6 radio reception and Bluetooth time synchronization. Its GPS is not for navigation or fitness tracking. The case is also exceptionally substantial, and in 2026 prospective owners should factor in the transition from G-SHOCK Connected to CASIO WATCHES, plus the uncertainty of buying an older model.
What is the GPW-2000?
Introduced in 2017, the GPW-2000 belongs to Casio’s MASTER OF G / GRAVITYMASTER aviation line. Its distinctive feature is three ways to correct or manage time: GPS satellite reception, terrestrial radio reception through Multi-Band 6, and Bluetooth synchronization with a phone. Casio’s historical account describes the model’s three-system approach: Casio’s G-Shock history.
GPW-2000 identifies the watch family, not one color or regional package. Variants include different colorways and limited editions such as the GPW-2000TFB; regional suffixes include GPW-2000-1A, GPW-2000-1A2JF and GPW-2000-1A2DR. Check the exact suffix and regional product listing before buying, since specifications and included details may differ. Casio Mexico’s GPW-2000-1A listing is one official regional reference.
Size, design and wrist fit
The case measures approximately 66 × 57.1 × 18.2 mm and weighs 120 g, according to a listing for the GPW-2000-1A2DR. It combines a resin and stainless-steel case and bezel with a carbon-fiber-insert resin band. These are substantial proportions even for a G-Shock: the case may overhang a smaller wrist, and its thickness can catch on shirt cuffs or interfere with gloves and close-fitting gear. Check the case’s lug-to-lug footprint and thickness on your own wrist rather than relying on wrist circumference alone. The listing’s dimensions and construction specifications.

The aviation-instrument dial, hands and multiple subdials give the GPW-2000 a strong, technical identity, but the display is busier than a simple three-hand watch. The analog layout suits people who like prominent mechanical-style indications; it is less suited to anyone who wants digital information that can be read instantly at a glance. The weight is manageable for some wearers but noticeable beside resin-only G-Shocks.
Materials and durability
A sapphire crystal with glare-resistant coating is a meaningful advantage over the mineral or resin crystals found on many less expensive watches. The band’s carbon-fiber insert is intended to strengthen it and resist tearing. Casio specifies shock, centrifugal-force and vibration resistance, the combination it calls Triple G Resist, as well as magnetic resistance and 200-meter water resistance. These features make the watch a robust choice for everyday knocks and demanding use, not an indestructible one. Casio’s regional product specifications.
Casio’s water-resistance guidance distinguishes 20-bar watches from equipment designated for scuba diving. The 200-meter rating is appropriate for swimming and ordinary water use, but should not be taken as a guarantee against every kind of diving, impact in water or abuse. What GPS does—and does not do
“GPS” here means GPS-assisted timekeeping and location acquisition, not navigation or activity tracking. Casio describes automatic GPS reception for time information and manual reception for position and time information. The system can help set time while traveling and obtain location information, but the GPW-2000 does not provide turn-by-turn directions, onboard maps, continuous route tracking, running or cycling profiles, heart-rate monitoring or cellular connectivity. Casio’s GPW-2000 feature description.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →GPS reception depends on conditions: indoor locations, heavy cover, tall buildings and an unfavorable orientation can obstruct reception. It is most useful as one time and position tool among the watch’s correction options, not as a replacement for a GPS sports watch.
Bluetooth and Flight Log
Bluetooth connects the watch to a phone for automatic time correction, watch-setting changes, world-time city selection, time-zone and daylight-saving updates, and phone finding. The watch can also record a user-triggered time-point memory for the Flight Log or Mission Stamp function. When paired with a phone, location information can be associated with recorded points and displayed on a map. That workflow is phone-assisted: it is not an independent, continuous flight recorder. Three ways to keep time
| System | How it helps | Limits |
|---|---|---|
| Bluetooth | Convenient automatic correction and phone-assisted time-zone or daylight-saving updates when the paired phone is available. | Requires a compatible, configured phone and app; operating-system changes and permissions can affect use. |
| Multi-Band 6 | Receives terrestrial time signals where regional coverage and reception conditions permit. Listed transmitters include WWVB (United States), DCF77 (Germany), MSF (United Kingdom), JJY (Japan) and BPC (China). Transmitter listing. | Not universal. Distance from a transmitter, buildings, interference, orientation and other local conditions can prevent reception. |
| GPS | Offers time correction and position information when satellite reception is available, including when terrestrial radio coverage is unavailable. | Needs suitable reception conditions and uses more energy than ordinary timekeeping; it is not a navigation or tracking service. |
The redundancy is impressive, but many owners will use only one correction method most of the time. Without communication-based time correction, Casio states accuracy of approximately ±15 seconds per month. Casio’s accuracy specification.
Solar charging and long-term ownership
Tough Solar powers the watch, but solar charging does not make it maintenance-free. A reseller specification gives estimates of about six months’ operation after a full charge without further light exposure under normal use, or about 23 months in darkness with power saving enabled. Treat these as usage estimates, not guaranteed results for every watch or owner. The listing’s reserve estimates.

- Radio wave reception: Automatic reception up to six times a day (except for use in China: up to five times a day); manual reception
- Digital compass: Measures and displays direction as one of 16 points with the second hand; measuring range: 0 to 359; measuring unit: 1; 60 seconds continuous measurement; bidirectional calibration and magnetic declination correction
- Barometer: Measuring range: 260 hPa to 1,100 hPa (7.65 to 32.45 inHg); measuring unit: 1 hPa (0.05 inHg); atmospheric pressure change indicator (10 hPa); atmospheric pressure tendency graph (past 20 hours graph display); barometric pressure tendency

Regular daylight exposure is preferable to relying on intense artificial light. GPS reception and frequent Bluetooth use add energy demand, while prolonged darkness can lead to low-charge behavior. In a used example, check that the charge indication rises after exposure to light; age can affect the rechargeable cell even when the solar system appears intact. The cell, seals, buttons, band and electronics may eventually need service.
Display and controls in daily use
The analog display includes hour, minute and seconds hands, a day/date indication, world-time and 24-hour subdials, and a charge indication. Stopwatch, countdown timer, alarm, airplane mode, power-saving behavior and hand-home-position correction add utility. Multiple motors and independently driven hands support the complex display and rapid hand movement. Professional Watches’ feature overview.
Operation is button-driven rather than crown-driven. Mode changes and reception functions require learning the watch’s controls; Bluetooth setup is easier in the app. Correct hand alignment matters after impacts, magnetic exposure or unusual operation. CASIO WATCHES app support in 2026
Casio’s current guidance says new users should use CASIO WATCHES. Existing G-SHOCK Connected users who want to transfer their data must first use G-SHOCK Connected version 3.0 or higher to complete the in-app transfer, and then pair with CASIO WATCHES. Casio says a watch can be paired with only one app, so do not pair it to both. Casio’s app migration and pairing guidance.
- If you have existing G-SHOCK Connected data, update that app to version 3.0 or higher and complete the in-app transfer before pairing with CASIO WATCHES.
- If you are a new user, install CASIO WATCHES and pair the watch there.
- Allow the Bluetooth and location permissions the phone requests for the functions you intend to use.
- If pairing fails, check whether the watch is still registered in the old app or associated with a previous phone; follow Casio’s recovery guidance for the exact model.
Older compatibility information lists G-SHOCK Connected minimums of iOS 10 and Android 6.0, but those historical figures are not guarantees of operation on current phones. Casio warns that later operating-system updates or display changes can affect app operation. Casio’s historical compatibility notice. A used watch may also remain paired to its previous owner’s phone, and app screens or features described in older reviews may have changed.
Who should wear it every day?
- Good fit: travelers who value automatic time-zone correction; analog-watch fans who want electronic timekeeping; collectors drawn to unusual G-Shock engineering; and wearers who prioritize toughness, sapphire and water resistance.
- Less suitable: small-wrist users, people who need a slim watch for cuffs, and anyone who wants uncluttered digital readouts, health metrics, navigation, notifications or a current smartwatch platform.
Its three correction systems provide backup and flexibility, but not three entirely different categories of everyday functionality. The extra systems matter most if travel, radio coverage or the appeal of the engineering makes that redundancy useful to you.
GPW-2000 versus newer watches
| Option | Consider it if you want | How it differs from the GPW-2000 |
|---|---|---|
| G-Shock GWG-2000 Mudmaster | A rugged outdoor tool watch with sensors and Multi-Band 6. | Its Triple Sensor and mud-resistant design prioritize outdoor instrumentation; it is not a like-for-like substitute for the GPW-2000’s GPS/Bluetooth timekeeping. Casio’s GWG-2000 page. |
| GR-B300 Gravitymaster | A newer Gravitymaster design direction and Bluetooth-connected functions. | Check the exact model’s current product listing before treating it as a technical successor; the family name alone does not establish identical sensors or time-correction systems. Casio’s G-Shock technology and model hub. |
| GPR-H1000 Rangeman | GPS-oriented outdoor and training functions. | A substantially different, outdoor-focused direction rather than a traditional analog aviation watch. Casio identifies it among its GPS-equipped G-Shock models. Casio’s G-Shock technology and model hub. |
| GPW-1000 | The earlier GPS Hybrid Wave Ceptor Gravitymaster look, often sought on the used market. | It lacks the GPW-2000’s Bluetooth-centered feature set; it is a collector alternative, not an equivalent feature package. |
| Garmin or Apple Watch | Navigation, route recording, training or health features and connected services. | These are functional alternatives, not replacements for the GPW-2000’s large analog aviation styling and watch-first approach. Compare exact models for battery life, durability and water resistance. |
Buying an older or gray-market GPW-2000
Availability is inconsistent in current regional listings; that is not the same as a confirmed official discontinuation notice. Price depends on country, edition, condition and seller, so a single current price would be misleading. Casio Mexico showed MX$22,299 for the standard GPW-2000-1A when its page was crawled in August 2026; that is a regional listing, not a US price or a universal market value. A 2018 review reported original price signals of $800 for the standard model and $900 for the limited GPW-2000TFB; those are historical context, not current offers. Casio Mexico listing; Digital Trends’ 2018 review.
Prefer an authorized retailer where one is available, or a reputable dealer that can authenticate the watch and accept returns. Before committing to a used example, ask the seller for:
- The exact model suffix and module number, plus clear photos of the caseback, dial, clasp and identification markings.
- Confirmation that the hands align at 12 o’clock and that the subdials and buttons operate.
- Evidence of Bluetooth pairing and, where practical, GPS and radio reception.
- Evidence that the charge level rises with daylight exposure.
- Close views of the carbon-fiber-insert band, crystal and coating, case and lugs; ask about service history and original documentation.
- The return policy, especially if app pairing, charging or reception cannot be fully demonstrated before purchase.
Inspect for hand misalignment, weak or nonmoving subdials, cracked resin near the lugs, stiff or damaged buttons, corrosion around the caseback or crown, peeling coatings and a charge indicator that remains low despite light exposure. For an expensive older watch, unresolved doubts about authenticity, operation or returns are reasons to walk away.
