Choose the PRG-270-1 if you prefer its conventional display or value its longer published operating estimate without light after charging. Their core sensor functions and listed measurement ranges are closely matched, so the decision is mainly about display, fit, materials and power-use estimates—not a major sensor upgrade.
How the PRG-270-1 and PRG-340-1 differ
| Feature | PRG-270-1 | PRG-340-1 | What it means for you |
|---|---|---|---|
| Display | Conventional display; Casio’s cited product page does not describe a duplex LCD. | Duplex LCD: compass graphics appear on an upper layer, with time or measurements on a lower layer. | The PRG-340-1 gives compass information a more dedicated visual presentation. |
| Orientation features | No rotating bezel or movable-lug feature is described on the cited product page. | Rotating bezel for simple orientation memory; movable lugs let the case and band lie flat. | The PRG-340-1 offers practical layout conveniences, not a substitute for map-and-compass skills. |
| Listed dimensions | 54.6 × 52.4 × 15 mm | 54.7 × 51.7 × 15.1 mm | Dimensions are close; both are large watches by their longest measurement. |
| Listed weight | 67 g | 54 g | The PRG-340-1 is 13 g lighter in Casio’s specifications. |
| Case and band materials | Resin case and resin band. | Bio-based resin case and soft urethane band; Casio describes bio-based materials in most parts. | These material descriptions do not establish a comparative lifecycle impact. |
| Approximate operating period after full charge | About 9 months under normal use without further light exposure. | About 7 months under normal use without further light exposure. | Casio’s estimate is longer for the PRG-270-1 under this condition. |
| Water and cold ratings | 100 m water resistance; operation specified to −10°C. | 100 m water resistance; operation specified to −10°C. | The listed ratings are the same. |
Specifications and operating estimates above are from Casio’s product information; they are not independent test results. Operating periods are approximate and depend on the stated conditions.

Which model has the better compass display?
PRG-340-1: a layered compass presentation
The PRG-340-1 uses a duplex LCD. Casio describes compass graphics on the upper layer and time or measurements on the lower layer, so compass information can remain visually distinct from the other readouts. Its rotating bezel can help you keep track of a direction you have identified.
PRG-270-1: a more conventional layout
The PRG-270-1 provides a digital compass, but the cited product information does not describe the PRG-340-1’s duplex display or rotating bezel. If you do not need those presentation and orientation features, the PRG-270-1 still provides the same broad compass capability.

Are their outdoor sensors and functions different?
Both watches have Casio’s Triple Sensor functions: an altimeter, barometer, digital compass and thermometer. Casio lists the same measurement ranges for both models:
- Altimeter: −700 to 10,000 m; up to 30 manual altitude records.
- Barometer: 260 to 1,100 hPa.
- Digital compass: 0–359° measurement with a 16-point display.
- Thermometer: −10 to 60°C.
Both also include a sunrise/sunset display, stopwatch, countdown timer and daily alarms. Casio lists five daily alarms for the PRG-270-1; the cited specifications identify the same broad alarm function for the PRG-340-1. The available specifications do not establish a major sensor-function advantage for either watch.

Which is more comfortable to wear?
Casio lists the PRG-340-1 at 54 g and the PRG-270-1 at 67 g. The PRG-340-1’s 13 g lower listed weight may matter on long days or if you are sensitive to a heavy watch, although weight alone cannot determine comfort. Their listed case dimensions are very close, and both measure more than 54 mm along their longest dimension. Neither is a compact choice for someone seeking a small watch.

What do the solar operating estimates mean?
Casio estimates approximately 9 months of operation for the PRG-270-1 and 7 months for the PRG-340-1 under normal use without exposure to light after charging. These are manufacturer estimates, not results from an independent test, and they describe a specific no-light condition rather than a guaranteed interval between charges in everyday use.
For a different condition—darkness with power saving enabled—Casio lists 24 months for the PRG-270-1 and 27 months for the PRG-340-1. These are also condition-dependent manufacturer estimates. The difference between the estimates means the preferred model depends on the usage condition you are considering; it does not establish that one watch always lasts longer.

The descriptions identify the listed materials but do not, on their own, support a broader environmental ranking.

- You expect to use the rotating bezel to keep a direction in mind.
- You prefer the lower listed weight or the movable-lug design.
- You want the listed bio-based resin construction, while recognizing that the material description is not a lifecycle comparison.
