Casio’s First Mechanical Watch: The Edifice EFK-100 Forged-Carbon Models Explained

Casio’s first mechanical watch is the EDIFICE EFK-100. Here is the exact forged-carbon model, how it differs from electroformed D/YD versions, and what Casio announced about size, reserve, water resistance and launch pricing.

Casio’s EFK-100 is the company’s first timepiece with a mechanical movement, and the first EDIFICE model equipped with an automatic movement that also supports manual winding. The forged-carbon watch in this family is specifically the EFK-100CD-1A (with regional suffix variations such as EFK-100YCD-1A), not every EFK-100 dial. Casio announced the range in 2025; the official launch material does not establish current stock or 2026 pricing.

Casio’s international announcement and Casio Europe’s announcement provide the launch specifications and naming distinctions.

Is the EFK-100 the first mechanical Casio?

Casio’s international release calls the EFK-100 the first mechanical movement in a Casio timepiece. Casio Europe describes it more specifically as the first EDIFICE equipped with a mechanical automatic movement with manual winding. Those are the defensible scopes of the “first” claim; the announcements do not support a broader statement about every mechanical watch Casio has ever made or sold under every historical label.

The movement winds itself as you wear the watch and can also be wound by turning the crown. Casio gives a power reserve of approximately 40 hours when fully wound, while the European release phrases this as more than 40 hours.

Which EFK-100 actually uses forged carbon?

EFK-100CD-1A: the genuine forged-carbon dial

The EFK-100CD-1A is the model Casio identifies with a forged-carbon dial. Carbon fibers are blended into resin and compressed to form the dial, producing irregular surface patterns. Because the fibers distribute randomly, each dial has a distinctive visual pattern rather than a repeated printed texture.

EFK-100D and YD: carbon-look texture made by electroforming

The EFK-100D versions resemble the carbon dial but use electroforming to reproduce the texture. They should not be described as having the same forged-carbon construction. Casio Japan uses Y-prefixed regional suffixes for the corresponding D-style models, while the international materials use D suffixes.

EFK-100XPB: a separate forged-carbon variant

Casio also lists the EFK-100XPB as a separate forged-carbon model. The European announcement gives this version a 40 mm case; the CD and D models are listed at 39 mm.

EFK-100 specifications at a glance

Model or family Dial construction Case diameter Movement and reserve Crystal and water resistance
EFK-100CD (including regional CD suffixes) Forged carbon; random carbon-fiber pattern 39 mm Automatic with manual winding; approximately 40 hours fully wound Sapphire crystal; 10-bar water resistance
EFK-100D (Japan may use YD suffixes) Electroformed texture reproducing a carbon look 39 mm Automatic with manual winding; approximately 40 hours fully wound Sapphire crystal; 10-bar water resistance
EFK-100XPB Forged-carbon variant 40 mm Casio’s cited launch material does not state a separate reserve figure Not stated separately in the cited release

The 39 mm dimensions, sapphire crystal and 10-bar rating come from Casio Europe’s 2025 release. “More than 40 hours” is the wording used there; Casio’s international release says “approximately 40 hours.”

What forged carbon changes—and what it does not

Forged carbon is primarily a material and finishing choice here. Its appeal is the unpredictable fiber pattern, so two dials are not expected to look identical. It does not turn the EFK-100CD into a different type of movement: the CD, D and XPB models belong to the same mechanical-launch family, with the key construction difference being the dial treatment identified by Casio.

Launch names and historical prices

Model suffixes and prices vary by region, so they should not be merged into a single worldwide specification.

Europe, July 2025 announcement EFK-100CD €299 RRP European recommended retail price; sale announced from August 1, 2025

These are historical launch prices, not current quotations, and the Japanese and European suffixes are not interchangeable proof of identical local stock. The cited announcements do not establish live availability or retailer pricing as of September 28, 2026.

Why Casio put a mechanical movement in EDIFICE

Casio frames the watch around the hands-on appeal shared by car enthusiasts and mechanical-watch owners. Tadashi Kojima, product planning at CASIO, said: “Many car enthusiasts enjoy the feeling of control. A mechanical automatic movement with manual winding fits perfectly with this attitude to life – which is why it was important to us to integrate it into an EDIFICE model for the first time.”

That rationale explains the combination of an automatic mechanism, manual winding and a motorsport-oriented EDIFICE identity; it is a design and product-positioning statement rather than an independent performance test.

How to identify the right model before buying

  1. Read the full reference. Look for EFK-100CD-1A or the applicable regional CD/YCD suffix if you specifically want forged carbon.
  2. Check the dial description. “Electroforming” identifies the carbon-texture EFK-100D/YD models, not the forged-carbon CD construction.
  3. Confirm the case size. The CD and D releases are 39 mm; the XPB is listed at 40 mm.
  4. Verify the seller’s region and price. Casio’s 2025 prices were regional launch figures. Confirm current stock, warranty coverage and the exact suffix with the retailer.

What is established—and what is not

  • Established by Casio’s 2025 releases: the EFK-100 is Casio’s first announced mechanical timepiece and EDIFICE’s first automatic model with manual winding.
  • Established: approximately 40 hours of fully wound reserve, sapphire crystal and 10-bar water resistance for the CD and D specifications listed by Casio Europe.
  • Established: genuine forged-carbon construction for the CD and XPB variants cited by Casio, versus electroformed carbon-look texture for D/YD variants.
  • Not established by these announcements: present-day availability, current retailer pricing, accuracy results, servicing costs or comparative performance against other mechanical watches.
