Cauny is a design-led watch brand with a documented history dating to 1927, but whether a Cauny watch is a good buy depends on the specific reference. Official product pages show meaningful differences in movement, size and water resistance: the Royal Black is a 33 mm quartz watch rated to 10 ATM, while the Ando Grey 31.5 mm is quartz and rated to 3 ATM. The brand publishes a 36-month warranty, but the available evidence does not establish independent long-term performance, accuracy or resale value.
What is Cauny, and how reliable is its history?
Cauny dates its official origin to 1927, the year it says its earliest verified document bearing the brand name was created. The company mentions possible roots in 1906–1907, when a Spanish reseller may have commissioned Swiss watches, but describes documentation for that earlier period as scarce and fragmentary. It is therefore more accurate to call 1927 Cauny’s documented origin than to state that the brand was definitively founded in 1906. Cauny’s history page is the source for this account.
Cauny identifies the 1950s through the 1970s as its strongest historical period. Its account says Mireille Grebler led the brand, with production and creative direction based in Switzerland and Spain, Mediterranean France, and Portugal among its strongest markets. Cauny says ownership changed after Grebler, production stopped in the late 1990s or early 2000s, and Portuguese company Ourtime acquired the brand rights in 2019 and revived it. These are the company’s own historical claims, not an independently verified corporate history.
The present-day brand also emphasizes design collaborations. Cauny Japan describes its “Architects of Time” project as launched in 2022, and Cauny’s current English catalog includes watches associated with architect Tadao Ando. That context helps explain the collection’s design direction; it does not establish how a watch performs mechanically.

What do current Cauny watches offer?
Two official models illustrate why it is better to assess individual references than generalize about the whole range. The figures below come from Cauny’s product pages; prices and availability can change.

These are examples, not a catalog-wide specification. Cauny says crystal type varies by model; its FAQ lists 316L stainless-steel cases and steel, leather or cotton straps across the range, so confirm the exact materials on the reference you are considering. The case diameters above can help narrow a fit, but diameter alone does not establish how a watch will wear on a particular wrist.

How much water resistance do Cauny watches have?
There is no single water-resistance rating for the brand. Cauny’s FAQ gives the following general use guidance, while each model’s page should take precedence if it sets a more specific limit:
- 3 ATM: splashes from hand washing; not showering or swimming.
- 5 ATM: shower use, but not swimming.
- 10 ATM: swimming and snorkeling, but not deep diving.
- 20 ATM: swimming, snorkeling, surfing and high-impact water sports.
These are the manufacturer’s stated limits, not independent test findings. Do not assume that a water-resistance figure makes every activity safe for every watch; use the precise model guidance and avoid exceeding it.

What warranty and returns does Cauny publish?
Cauny’s FAQ states a 36-month warranty for manufacturing defects affecting the movement, case, dial and hands. It excludes straps and batteries, and does not cover misuse or damage. Purchases from unauthorized resellers are excluded. The FAQ says the invoice serves as proof of warranty and directs repair requests to [email protected]. Check the current warranty terms before purchase, since the policy is the brand’s own and may change.
The reviewed Royal Black page states a 30-day return period. The Ando Grey page says a return or exchange may be requested within 30 days of delivery if the watch is in perfect condition. These are product-page terms; review the policy for your destination and order before relying on the window.

Where should you buy a Cauny watch?
Cauny advises buying through its official website or authorized dealers. It warns that unauthorized sites may sell counterfeits, and says authorized sellers provide authenticity assurance, warranty coverage, qualified service and customer support. The brand’s FAQ is the place to check its dealer and purchase guidance: Cauny FAQs. Keep the invoice if you need to make a warranty claim.
Shipping terms depend on destination and may change. Cauny says orders ship from Portugal and processing generally takes one to two business days; its FAQ lists the countries it serves, notes that standard shipping is free in some EU countries, and warns that non-EU customs charges or VAT may apply. Confirm the applicable shipping, taxes and return terms at checkout.

Battery life and basic care
Cauny describes its quartz watches as using standard silver-oxide batteries and gives a general expected battery life of two to four years, depending on environmental factors. For the Ando model specifically, its product page estimates two to three years. These are manufacturer estimates, not independent measurements.
- Cauny says not to wash leather or cotton straps.
- For metal bracelets, it recommends washing with warm water.
- Check the model’s care guidance and warranty terms before arranging service or replacing a battery.
So, are Cauny watches any good?
Cauny’s published specifications make some individual watches straightforward to evaluate: for example, the Royal Black combines quartz, a 33 mm case, sapphire cover and 10 ATM rating, whereas the smaller Ando Grey is a 3 ATM watch intended for much more limited water exposure. The 36-month warranty and stated return windows are useful purchase terms, provided you buy through an authorized channel and check the current conditions.
Those facts do not establish long-term accuracy, failure rates, actual service costs or resale value, and the available sources do not provide independent comparative testing. If those factors are decisive, seek independent owner or service evidence for the exact reference rather than treating brand history or design collaboration as a substitute for performance data.
