The Certina DS+ is an automatic watch built around a swappable three-part system: a watch head, an outer case and a strap or bracelet. The design lets you change more than the band—Certina says both the case and strap can be changed without tools. Monochrome Watches’ launch-era video review, published on 3 October 2022, shows the concept and describes how the case swap works.
How the Certina DS+ modular system works
Certina describes the DS+ as three separate elements: the watch head, the case and the strap. The dial-and-movement head sits inside a selected outer stainless-steel case; the case carries the lugs, and the strap or bracelet attaches to it. Certina’s collection page calls this a “three-part construction: watch head, watch case and strap.”
The practical distinction is that the DS+ is not only a quick-change-strap watch. The outer case is also interchangeable, so changing it alters the watch’s shape and overall look while retaining the same head. Certina says the case and strap can be changed without tools. Its construction description says the head is pressed into the case and secured by a separate crown, with a gasket made using bio-sourced material providing the seal.
What happens in the video review?
Monochrome Watches published its review, “The New Certina DS+ Collection Of Customizable Watches (Video Review, Live Pics),” on 3 October 2022. The accompanying video is titled “REVIEW: The Certina DS+ Concept of Customizable Watches.” In the article, Brice Goulard describes unscrewing two crowns, replacing the outer case and tightening the crowns again. He estimates the change at about 30 seconds; that is the review’s description, not a separately measured result.

The video is best understood as a launch-era look at the DS+ concept rather than a guide to current stock or prices. Certina’s current UK configurator and collection page present selectable components and kit names, but available combinations can vary by region and over time.
Movement and core specifications
Certina’s 4 October 2022 launch announcement specifies an automatic Powermatic calibre with an 80-hour power reserve, a Nivachron balance spring, a date display at 6 o’clock and water resistance to 20 bar (200 m). The UK configurator also lists an automatic movement, 80-hour reserve, Nivachron, Swiss Made status and a two-year warranty.

Dimensions depend on the selected component. The UK configurator lists case dimensions in a 40.40–43.40 mm range among its selectable parts, with different listed heights; those figures should not be treated as the dimensions of every DS+ configuration. It lists a 20.00 mm lug span, but that alone does not establish compatibility with every conventional 20 mm strap. Check the exact case or bracelet reference before buying a replacement.
Case styles, dials and band options
Certina’s configurator lists black, dark blue and silver dial choices. Its case descriptions include an Aqua style with a black unidirectional rotating bezel, a Sport style with extended flanks and six screws, and a cushion-shaped case with four visible screws. The collection page currently names Aqua & Sport, Sport & Urban, Urban & Heritage and Black Edition kits. These names and options reflect the brand’s current presentation; they differ from the three kit combinations described in the 2022 launch review.

Official materials show band choices that include steel, Milanese mesh, leather, NATO and synthetic straps or bracelets. The best way to compare configurations is to check the case shape and finish, dial, included band material and the dimensions listed for the exact selected reference.

Certina’s 4 October 2022 announcement says each of its then three sets included one watch head, two cases and two straps, and that components were available separately online at the time. Neither the launch announcement nor the review establishes today’s kit contents, component stock or regional pricing. - Certina’s DS+ collection page presents the brand’s kit names and construction overview. Confirm the page and retailer listing for the region where you plan to buy.
- For a replacement case, strap or bracelet, match the component reference to your watch head and case rather than relying on a general lug-width assumption.
