The Stauer 1930 Dashtronic is an automatic watch with a retro, instrument-panel-style display—but it only looks like a jumping-hour watch. Stauer explicitly says it is not an actual jumping complication. Its appeal is the unusual design and mechanical format; its practical case for the money depends on the price you can actually buy it for, your wrist fit, and whether its limited water-resistance rating suits your use.
What kind of watch is the 1930 Dashtronic?
Stauer describes the Dashtronic as an automatic watch powered by a 21-jewel movement. Its display has a retro, digital-inspired look that suggests an instrument dial or speedometer rather than conventional hands. The crucial distinction is that the display is styled to evoke a jumping display; it does not use an actual jumping complication. Stauer’s product description makes that qualification explicit.
That makes “digi-auto” a useful description of its appearance, not a claim that it is an electronic digital watch. It is mechanically wound by motion, according to Stauer’s owner’s manual.

How the automatic winding and setting work
The watch needs motion to keep its automatic movement wound. Stauer’s manual says daily wear supplies kinetic winding and warns that the watch stops if it is not kept in motion. It does not give a power-reserve duration, so there is no sourced basis for promising how long a fully wound Dashtronic will continue running off the wrist.
- Give it an initial wind: With the crown in position 0, turn it clockwise for 15–20 cycles. Stop if you feel resistance.
- Set the hour: Pull the crown to position 1 and rotate it counter-clockwise to set the hour.
- Set the minutes: Continue rotating counter-clockwise to set the minutes.
The procedure and motion guidance come from Stauer’s manual. The manual mentions a watch winder as an optional item; it does not establish one as necessary.

What 3 ATM means for everyday use
Stauer lists the watch at 3 ATM, but its product page does not provide a more detailed activity rating. Treat that number as a limited water-resistance specification, not as evidence that the watch is suitable for swimming or other water sports. If water exposure is a deciding factor, seek guidance from Stauer for the intended use rather than inferring a broader rating from the number alone.

There is no single stable price to judge against. When accessed in 2026, Stauer’s page displayed $399 and $199. Those are page-listed amounts, not a guarantee of checkout pricing or continuing availability. Time+Tide reported a US$179 promotional offer on December 17, 2022; that was a dated deal, not a current price. Time+Tide’s coverage also characterized the design as speedometer- or rev-counter-like, an editorial description rather than a technical assessment.

Consider the Dashtronic if its distinctive display and automatic operation are the main attraction and the live price feels acceptable to you. It is a weaker fit if you specifically want a real jumping-hour mechanism, a documented movement caliber or measured accuracy, a stated power reserve, or greater water resistance. Stauer’s cited product materials do not identify the movement maker or caliber, report timekeeping tests, or establish independent durability or repair results.
