The specifications below come from Chopard; the wearing impressions are James Robinson’s, published by Time+Tide on 26 November 2019—not new hands-on testing.
What is the Alpine Eagle 41 Bernina Grey?
Reference 298600-3002 is the stainless-steel version of Chopard’s Alpine Eagle 41 with a Bernina Grey dial. Chopard’s US product page identifies it as a 41 mm automatic watch in Lucent Steel. Its grey dial is galvanically treated and pairs rhodium-plated Roman numerals with luminous hour markers. The front crystal is sapphire, and a display caseback reveals the movement. Chopard’s US product page provides the reference-specific details.
In Chopard’s 2023 catalogue, Bernina Grey is described as a brass dial with a sunburst motif inspired by an eagle’s iris. The catalogue also documents Bernina Grey in other Alpine Eagle configurations, including steel and steel/ethical rose-gold models; details should not be transferred from those variants to reference 298600-3002 without checking the reference.

How the original hands-on review described it
James Robinson’s Time+Tide review, published 26 November 2019, is the source of the hands-on observations—not a current writer’s wear test. Robinson found that the grey dial had “an iridescent quality” and a “heavily textured galvanic finish,” with its tone working cohesively with the steel.
He described the case as 9.7 mm thin and felt it wore slightly smaller than its stated 41 mm dimensions suggested. He also praised the bracelet’s comfort and taper, while noting that the links looked complex to size. These are his impressions from that review; bracelet fit and wrist presence can vary with wrist shape and adjustment. Read Robinson’s original Time+Tide review.

Price and availability depend on location and date
Chopard’s US product page displayed a price of $17,000 when accessed on 7 October 2026. That is a US-market page price at that date, not a universal or guaranteed current price. Chopard notes that boutique availability changes frequently, so check the official page or contact a boutique for current stock and pricing.
Time+Tide’s 26 November 2019 article listed A$18,200 and described availability as Chopard Boutique Sydney only at that time. That historical Australian listing is not directly comparable with the later US page price: the markets and dates differ.
