That is twice the 4 Hz rate of the standard Alpine Eagle 41 calibre 01.01-C, but it does not mean the Cadence is twice as accurate. Frequency describes how often the movement’s regulating organ oscillates; accuracy depends on more than that number.
What is the Alpine Eagle Cadence 8HF?
The Cadence 8HF is a titanium version of Chopard’s Alpine Eagle with an unusually fast-beating mechanical movement. Chopard currently lists two references: the gray-dial 298600-3005 and black-dial 298600-3020. Both use calibre 01.12-C, with a stated 8 Hz frequency, approximately 60-hour power reserve and COSC chronometer certification. Chopard’s US page for ref. 298600-3005 and its UK page for ref. 298600-3020 provide the model specifications.
Two references, different dials
| Reference | Dial and edition | Case and bracelet | Movement | Price shown |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 298600-3005 | Vals gray dial; limited to 250 pieces | Titanium; 41 mm diameter, 9.70 mm thick; 100 m water resistance | 01.12-C, 8 Hz; approximately 60 hours; COSC-certified | US page displayed $21,300 on 2026-10-08; regional, dated display, not a universal or guaranteed current price |
| 298600-3020 | Pitch-black dial with orange accents; production is not stated as limited on the cited UK page | Titanium; 41 mm diameter, 9.70 mm thick; 100 m water resistance | 01.12-C, 8 Hz; approximately 60 hours; COSC-certified | Not stated on the cited UK page |
The 250-piece limit applies to ref. 298600-3005 only; it should not be carried over to the black-dial 298600-3020. The UK page describes the latter as the second high-frequency Alpine Eagle model.
Case and everyday functions
Both references have a titanium case and bracelet, screw-down crown, sapphire crystal and sapphire display back. The stated 100 m water resistance and date-and-time functions give the watch the practical outline of a sports watch, while the 9.70 mm case thickness keeps it relatively slim for that category. The 3020 page additionally lists stop-seconds among its functions.

What does 8 Hz mean in a watch?
Hertz (Hz) measures cycles per second. In a mechanical watch, frequency refers to the oscillations of the balance wheel and hairspring—the regulating organ that controls the movement’s pace. Chopard specifies 8 Hz, or 57,600 vibrations per hour, for calibre 01.12-C. In practical terms, the regulator completes eight cycles each second. The seconds hand may appear smoother than on a slower-beating watch, but the figure is about the movement’s regulation, not a direct measure of how accurately the watch keeps time.
Chopard attributes the 01.12-C’s high frequency to a silicon escapement. The company says the movement is developed, produced and assembled in its workshops. Its published specifications also describe a three-spoke balance wheel, a flat balance spring and a central tungsten oscillating mass.

How it compares with the standard Alpine Eagle 41
Chopard’s 2023 English Alpine Eagle catalog lists the standard 41 mm Alpine Eagle calibre 01.01-C at 4 Hz, or 28,800 vibrations per hour, with 60 hours of power reserve. The Cadence 8HF’s 01.12-C doubles the frequency while retaining the same stated reserve:
| Movement | Alpine Eagle model | Frequency | Power reserve | Certification |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 01.01-C | Standard Alpine Eagle 41 | 4 Hz / 28,800 vibrations per hour | 60 hours | Not stated in the cited catalog entry |
| 01.12-C | Alpine Eagle Cadence 8HF | 8 Hz / 57,600 vibrations per hour | 60 hours | COSC chronometer-certified |
The catalog lists the 01.12-C as 28.80 mm in diameter and 4.95 mm thick, with 28 jewels and 210 components. It names hours, minutes, seconds, date and stop-seconds among its functions. The same catalog gives the standard 01.01-C’s 4 Hz and 60-hour figures, making this an in-family comparison rather than a comparison between unrelated watch designs. Chopard’s 2023 Alpine Eagle catalog is the source for those movement details.

Does a high-frequency movement make a watch more accurate?
Not automatically. A higher-frequency regulator makes more oscillations in a given time, and this can help a movement’s rate remain stable when it encounters disturbances. But frequency alone does not determine how closely a particular watch tracks the correct time. Construction, adjustment and the conditions in which a watch is worn also matter; the 8 Hz figure should not be read as a guarantee of superior real-world accuracy.
Calibre 01.12-C is COSC chronometer-certified, a meaningful independent certification claim. It is not a promise that every individual watch will maintain one specific rate in every position, temperature or wearing condition. Chopard’s product pages identify the movement as COSC-certified, but the published specifications here do not establish a particular day-to-day result for an individual Cadence.

What are the trade-offs of running at 8 Hz?
Higher frequency has costs as well as potential benefits. In a technical overview of high-frequency movements, Denis Peshkov of Monochrome Watches explains that faster operation demands more energy and increases component wear, potentially creating reliability and service challenges. Those are general engineering trade-offs, not evidence of a shorter service interval or a specific durability problem for the Cadence 8HF. Chopard’s stated approximately 60-hour reserve is notable alongside the 8 Hz rate, but the specification alone does not resolve questions about long-term wear or servicing.
Monochrome dates Chopard’s L.U.C 8HF introduction to 2012, the first Alpine Eagle Cadence 8HF to 2021, and the black-dial 298600-3020 to 2023, describing the latter as a non-limited-production model. These dates provide context for the concept’s development, not a performance verdict. Denis Peshkov’s technical article for Monochrome Watches discusses the principles and trade-offs.

Who should consider the Cadence 8HF?
The Cadence 8HF makes the most sense for a buyer drawn to its titanium Alpine Eagle design and interested in a comparatively uncommon high-frequency movement. Its main technical distinction is clear: the 01.12-C beats at 8 Hz while Chopard specifies approximately 60 hours of reserve and COSC certification. If the deciding question is whether the faster rate alone makes it a better timekeeper than a standard Alpine Eagle, the available specifications do not establish that. Nor do they establish independent durability, a service interval, resale value or comparative value.
