Battery parts and teardown steps vary by generation; opening the watch can also affect its water and dust resistance. If the battery is swollen or damaged, stop and seek qualified service.
Identify your watch before choosing a battery
“Samsung watch battery” is not a sufficiently specific parts search. Start with the watch’s model code and case size, then check a repair guide and parts listing for that exact variant. Even within a generation, sizes can use different batteries.
For the original Galaxy Watch, iFixit lists a 472 mAh battery for the 46 mm model and a 270 mAh battery for the 42 mm model. Those figures apply to the original Galaxy Watch variants only; they are not specifications for Watch3, Watch4, or later watches. In the United States, Samsung’s Wearable Support repair page describes repair requests with walk-in, mail-in, and at-home scheduling options. Those routes are US-specific and may not be available for every watch. Outside the US, use the Samsung support page for your country or region.
Prepare safely if you decide to open the watch
For the original Galaxy Watch, iFixit advises discharging the battery below 25% before disassembly to reduce the risk of a dangerous thermal event if the cell is accidentally damaged. Samsung’s self-repair guidance says, “If the battery is damaged, visit a Samsung Service Center.” Treat swelling, visible damage, or a compromised cell as a stop condition—not a reason to continue cautiously.

The tool lists in repair guides are model-specific examples, not a universal shopping list. The original Galaxy Watch guide names a Tri-point Y00 screwdriver, an opening tool, a spudger, a Phillips #00 screwdriver, and tweezers. The Watch4 and Watch4 Classic PDFs list a Y00 driver, opening tool, spudger, Phillips #00 driver, and Tesa 61395 tape among their materials. What the original Galaxy Watch teardown involves
The original Galaxy Watch guide describes removing four rear tri-point screws and then carefully opening the back. A flex cable remains connected, so the back cannot simply be pulled away. That detail makes controlled opening important: forcing the cover can damage a connection or other components.

This is only a model-specific outline, not a complete repair procedure. Follow the full guide for the exact watch, and do not use the original Galaxy Watch sequence for a Watch3, Watch4, or another generation. Guides and parts listings do not establish that the same opening method, battery, or adhesive works across the Galaxy Watch family.

Samsung says water resistance is not permanent and may be affected by disassembly or impact. It recommends having resistance checked periodically at an authorized service center. A DIY battery replacement therefore does not guarantee that the watch retains or regains its former water- or dust-resistance performance. If that protection matters for how you wear the watch, ask Samsung about inspection after repair.

When screws will not come out
If a rear screw will not turn, stop before the driver slips or damages the screw head. The original Galaxy Watch guide calls for a Tri-point Y00 driver; confirm that the bit is fully seated and is the specified type for your model. Do not assume a different driver or more force is safe. If the screw remains stuck, or the screw head is already damaged, use qualified repair service rather than continuing to force it.
