Its specifications make it a distinctive, feature-rich Chopard worldtimer; they do not, by themselves, establish how it wears or performs in practice. This is a reference-specific review based on published specifications and coverage, not an independent hands-on test.
What the Chopard L.U.C Time Traveler One Black is
Reference 168574-3008 is the black-dial version of the L.U.C Time Traveler One. It should not be confused with the related khaki-dial reference 168574-3013, which is a separate model. Chopard describes the Black’s case material as ceramicised titanium and its dial as black with vertical satin finishing, an azured hour circle, luminous Arabic numerals and markers, and contrasting discs for destination time and cities.

The combination is purposeful: the watch is designed to show time across the world’s principal time zones while keeping the display monochrome. Chopard characterizes ceramicised titanium as light and hard-wearing; those are manufacturer descriptions, not independently established results for this review.

How the worldtime display works
The watch is intended to display destination-city time alongside the principal 24 time zones. Specialist coverage of the Black describes an outer ring representing 24 main time zones and a central date disc. Together, the city and time indications make this a worldtimer rather than a watch that merely adds a second time zone in a conventional GMT layout.
Chopard’s documentation for the related 168574-3013 explains an interface with a crown at 2 o’clock for local time and a crown at 4 o’clock for the city disc; aligning the local city at 12 o’clock lets the wearer read the other zones. That operating description is for the related khaki reference, so it should not be treated as confirmed instructions for 168574-3008 without checking the Black’s own manual. The display concept is established; reference-specific setting steps are not.
What the movement and case suggest—and what they do not prove
The L.U.C 01.05-L pairs automatic winding with a stated approximately 60-hour reserve and a 4 Hz operating rate. Chopard identifies it as COSC-certified and says it is made in its workshops. Those facts make the movement a central part of the watch’s proposition, alongside the worldtime mechanism.

The 42 mm diameter and 12.09 mm thickness provide useful sizing information, but dimensions alone cannot establish comfort, balance, or how the watch sits on a particular wrist. Likewise, Chopard’s light-and-hard-wearing description of ceramicised titanium is not a substitute for independent wear or scratch testing. No physical handling, long-term wear, measured timekeeping, or durability testing is established for this assessment.

Price, availability and edition size
Chopard’s US product page displayed a price of $20,300 for reference 168574-3008 at the time represented by the cited page information. Treat that as a time-sensitive US listing, not a guaranteed current price or a universal price across regions. Chopard advises contacting a boutique to guarantee availability; confirm both price and stock directly before making a purchase.
Hodinkee’s 2021 coverage reported that the Black edition was limited to 250 pieces. The current official Chopard page information available for this review did not state an edition size, so the 250-piece figure should be understood as Hodinkee’s reported number, not a currently confirmed official production statement.
Quick Recap
Who should consider this Chopard worldtimer?
- Consider it if you want a dedicated worldtime display with city-based time-zone reading, rather than a simpler second-time-zone GMT presentation.
- Its appeal is strongest if the monochrome dial, L.U.C movement credentials and ceramicised-titanium construction are all part of what you value; none of those features should be mistaken for independently tested performance claims.
- Check carefully before buying if wrist fit, practical setting procedure, current stock, or the exact edition status is decisive. Published dimensions and related-reference instructions cannot answer those questions completely for this specific watch.
