Those details matter when assessing a specific watch: confirm its material and documentation rather than assuming every Dunes of Mars is the same variant.
What does the CVDK Planetarium watch show?
The Planetarium complication represents Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn orbiting the Sun in real time. It is a mechanical horological display of orbital motion, not an astronomical observation instrument. The Foundation de la Haute Horlogerie says Christiaan van der Klaauw was the first watchmaker to put a planetarium on a wristwatch, in 1999: Foundation de la Haute Horlogerie.
CVDK’s official Planetarium page gives these orbital periods for the planets represented: Mercury, 87.97 days; Venus, 224.70 days; Earth, 365.24 days; Mars, 686.98 days; Jupiter, 11.86 years; Saturn, 29.46 years. These are orbital periods, not a claim about the watch’s timekeeping accuracy.
What is the CKPM7705 Dunes of Mars?
The Limited Edition identifies Dunes of Mars as reference CKPM7705 and describes red aventurine glass as part of the Mars-themed design. Its particular listing is for a white-gold example. CVDK’s official pressroom also lists a download titled “CVDK Planetarium Dunes of Mars,” though the visible listing alone does not provide a complete technical specification sheet for the model. How many Dunes of Mars watches were made, and in which materials?
Christie’s reports six Dunes of Mars watches in each of three materials: stainless steel, white gold and pink gold. The retailer’s white-gold listing therefore describes one material variant, not necessarily the only configuration in the edition. The distinction is important: confirm the case material of the individual watch against its markings and paperwork. Christie’s records the edition and material breakdown in its auction entry.
Which specifications are confirmed for Dunes of Mars?
The sources cited here identify CKPM7705, the red aventurine-glass feature, and the edition’s material variants, but they do not establish a full Dunes of Mars specification sheet. CVDK’s separate official Planetarium page is for reference CKPT7724, not CKPM7705. It lists an automatic manufacture movement, 32 jewels, maximum 60-hour power reserve, 40 mm white-gold case, sapphire crystal and case-back, silver dial, black leather strap, and hours, minutes, date, month and planetarium functions. How to assess a Dunes of Mars listing
A retailer listing and an auction record establish that the model has been marketed and offered at auction; neither proves current stock, a current asking price or the condition of another example. Before committing to a purchase, request details tied to the exact watch:
- Identity and variant: reference, case material, edition number and photographs of the watch and its markings.
- Condition and service: condition report, service history and supporting documentation.
- Provenance and transaction terms: ownership or provenance records, seller authorization, warranty and delivery contents.
- Price and availability: current asking price and confirmation that the specific watch is available.
Compare like with like: an asking price is meaningful only alongside the particular case material, condition, included items and documentation. The retailer’s CKPM7705 listing and Christie’s auction entry describe the edition at different levels of detail, so reconcile the seller’s claims with the watch itself and its papers.

What about the box and winder?
CVDK says its Collection of Astronomical Masterpieces box includes a removable Swiss Kubik winder. That statement does not confirm the delivery configuration for every Dunes of Mars example, nor does it specify winding settings for CKPM7705. Ask the maker or an authorized seller what is included and whether any proposed winder is suitable for the particular watch. CVDK’s Planetarium page provides the collection-level box detail.
