The C1 Celestial Moonphase is a 300-piece collaboration between Christopher Ward and Mr Jones Watches, pairing an illustrated dial designed by Bea Watts with Christopher Ward’s moonphase mechanism. Mr Jones designed and printed the dial in London; Christopher Ward supplied components and handled technical assembly in Biel, Switzerland. Christopher Ward’s product page currently lists the watch as sold out and offers a waitlist.
What is the C1 Celestial Moonphase?
It is a limited-edition watch created by British brands Christopher Ward and Mr Jones Watches. Mr Jones states that the edition comprises 300 pieces. The collaboration combines Mr Jones’ illustrative approach with Christopher Ward components and technical assembly. Mr Jones’ collaboration page describes the design and production process; Christopher Ward’s product page presents the watch.

Who designed it, and how was it made?
Bea Watts, whom Mr Jones identifies as a lead assembly technician and illustrator, created the illustrations after winning an internal design competition. The artwork appears on the dial and case back. Mr Jones says it designed and printed the watch in London using Christopher Ward components, then sent the components to Biel, Switzerland, for Christopher Ward’s technical assembly.
Christopher Ward watch designer William Brackfield described the differing approaches behind the partnership: “Their process is very different to ours. Normally, we’d have markers and hands, but they’re coming from a very visual side. The end result is like a painting – but in a watch.”

How does the illustrated dial tell time?
Instead of conventional hands, the dial uses two purple birds as indicators: the bird nearer the rim shows minutes, while the inner bird shows hours. Clouds, swallows and a moon make the dial read like a night-sky illustration. The moon is coated with lume, according to Christopher Ward. The makers’ description explains the display, but does not establish comparative legibility against a conventional dial.
What does the moonphase mechanism claim to do?
The watch uses Christopher Ward’s in-house JJ04 module, which Mr Jones says mimics the lunar cycle. The brand claims that, if the watch is kept wound, the JJ04 could track the moon’s cycle for around 128 years. That is a manufacturer claim; the official collaboration information does not document an independent test of this particular watch.
Christopher Ward’s older C9 Moonphase handbook also discusses a JJ04 moonphase design and gives a lunar-cycle figure of 29 days, 12 hours, 44 minutes and 2.8 seconds. The handbook concerns the earlier C9, so it provides historical context rather than a full specification for the C1 Celestial.

Watts described a scene that moves from sunset into night, with swallows in flight and a viewer imagined above a blanket of clouds. She said the design was intended to create a cosy, private space for stargazing and to capture the fleeting feeling of that transition. That narrative is reflected in the dial’s moon, clouds and birds.
Is the C1 Celestial Moonphase available?
Christopher Ward’s official product page currently labels the watch “Sold out” and provides a waitlist. Mr Jones’ page describes it as available exclusively through Christopher Ward while stock lasts, wording that may not reflect the same availability update. Neither reviewed official page establishes a current price or secondary-market value, so check Christopher Ward’s page for the latest status rather than assuming the edition can still be purchased.
What specifications should you check before comparing it?
The collaboration pages establish the edition size, design, assembly locations and broad moonphase claim, but they do not provide a complete set of comparative specifications. If you are weighing it against another moonphase watch, verify the details that determine day-to-day use:
