Its appeal is specific: a hammer sounds a gong once at each passing hour, while a pusher lets you silence the chime. It is not a minute repeater and does not chime on demand.
What the Bel Canto’s chime does
The Bel Canto’s defining feature is a passing-hour chime, known in Swiss terminology as “Sonnerie au Passage.” At the hour, a hammer strikes a gong once to signal the time. You cannot ask it to chime at another moment, as you could with an on-demand complication such as a minute repeater.
Christopher Ward describes the FS01 as an adaptation of its jumping-hour movement into a striking mechanism. The company says the hammer strikes a steel spring gong, tuned to a D note, and that more than 60 additional components make up the module. These are the manufacturer’s descriptions of the mechanism and its sound.
Turning the sound off
An on/off pusher at 4 o’clock controls the chime, and an indicator shows the selected state. That gives the wearer a choice between the hourly signal and silent operation; it does not change the complication into an on-demand chime.

- CLASSIC WHITE DIAL WITH BLUE HANDS – Clean white dial with striking blue hands and bold Arabic numerals for easy reading at a glance. Vintage-inspired design that draws compliments. A timeless aesthetic that works equally well for business or casual wear. 40mm case size offers substantial wrist presence without being overwhelming

- COMFORTABLE BROWN PU LEATHER STRAP – Soft, flexible PU leather strap designed for all-day comfort. Adjustable buckle closure fits most wrist sizes. 20mm strap width complements the classic dial design. (Note: For extended durability, avoid prolonged exposure to moisture.)
- VERSATILE & EASY-TO-READ DESIGN – Bold numerals and contrasting blue hands ensure quick time reading in various lighting conditions. 13mm slim profile fits comfortably under shirt cuffs. Ideal for work, weekends, travel, or casual outings. 3ATM splash-resistant for hand-washing and light rain
Case, dial, and wearing considerations
The salmon dial and the visible striking mechanism give the watch two distinct focal points: color and mechanical display. The titanium case measures 41 mm across, with a 48 mm lug-to-lug span. Those dimensions are more useful for estimating wrist fit than diameter alone, but individual fit depends on wrist shape and personal preference.
Monochrome reports a 53 g watch-head weight and 13 mm thickness. The listed 30 m water resistance is a modest specification; choose a watch intended for the actual water exposure you expect rather than assuming this one suits swimming or other water activities.

Leather strap or titanium bracelet?
The reviewed configurations were a brown leather strap and a Grade 2 titanium bracelet with a folding clasp and micro-adjustment. The bracelet option offers that specified clasp and adjustment; choose between the configurations based on your preferred material and appearance. Confirm the exact configuration offered for any particular watch before ordering.
Who is the Bel Canto Salmon for?
- Consider it if you want an audible hourly time signal, enjoy seeing a mechanical complication at work, and find the salmon dial appealing.
- Think carefully if an hourly chime would be distracting. The on/off control helps, but the watch’s central idea is still a passing-hour strike.
- Check fit before buying against the 41 mm case diameter and 48 mm lug-to-lug measurement.
- Match the water rating to your routine: the stated resistance is 30 m, not a broad assurance for every water activity.
MeisterSinger’s Bell Hora is another watch associated with the chiming-hour category, but the available information here does not establish a like-for-like comparison of current specifications or prices. Treat it as a separate option to investigate rather than assuming equivalence.
