Chrono24 launched ChronoPulse on October 20, 2023, as a free price index for the secondary (pre-owned) luxury-watch market. Its defining claim is that it is built from transaction data on Chrono24’s own marketplace, not only from asking prices. It shows aggregate market movement across 14 brands and 140 models. It does not appraise an individual watch, and it cannot tell you what a specific watch will sell for or what it will return in the future.
What Chrono24 launched
Chrono24 announced ChronoPulse in Karlsruhe, Germany, on October 20, 2023, alongside the company’s 20th anniversary. According to the launch announcement, the index is accessible on Chrono24’s website and is built from anonymized first-party sales data, meaning sales recorded on the company’s own platform.
The company’s CEO, Tim Stracke, framed the launch this way in the October 20, 2023 announcement: “In our 20 year history we’ve amassed a treasure trove of trusted, real data that offers an unbeatable representation of the pre-owned watch market. It’s an honor to be able to share it as a service to the entire watch industry.” That is the company’s own characterization of its data, and it should be read as such.
Chrono24 Magazine’s launch coverage, dated October 31, 2023, says the index was developed by data specialists and economic experts and that it uses the Laspeyres method, a base-weighted index formula. Chrono24’s public descriptions do not publish a full formula, so the Laspeyres reference tells you the family of method, not enough to rebuild the numbers yourself.

Which watches are in the index
The initial basket included the 14 brands that contributed the most to Chrono24’s gross merchandise volume, with 10 high-selling models from each brand, for 140 models in total. The launch announcement said this selection aimed to cover more than 80% of the luxury-watch market. That coverage figure is the company’s stated goal, not an independently verified share.
The 14 brands named at launch were:
- Rolex
- Omega
- Patek Philippe
- Audemars Piguet
- Breitling
- Cartier
- IWC
- Panerai
- TAG Heuer
- Tudor
- Jaeger-LeCoultre
- Grand Seiko
- Hublot
- Vacheron Constantin
Chrono24’s live ChronoPulse page, accessed October 8, 2026, describes the same scope: 14 brands and 140 models. The page names the Rolex Submariner, Patek Philippe Nautilus, Audemars Piguet Royal Oak and Omega Seamaster as examples of models tracked. Membership is not fixed. The company says selection and weighting are reviewed every six months, so the set of models can change over time even though the current description matches the launch scope.

Key figures and what each one measures
Chrono24 has published several numbers about ChronoPulse and its underlying data. They measure different things over different periods, so they should not be treated as one interchangeable total.
| Figure | Value | What it measures | Source and date |
|---|---|---|---|
| Index scope | 14 brands, 140 models | The launch basket: 10 high-selling models per brand from the 14 largest contributors to Chrono24’s gross merchandise volume | Launch announcement, October 20, 2023; live page, accessed October 8, 2026 |
| Coverage goal | More than 80% of the luxury-watch market | The company’s stated aim for the basket; not independently verified | Launch announcement, October 20, 2023 |
| Data points | More than 4.6 million | Data points cited by the company at launch; the announcement does not define the unit further | Launch announcement, October 20, 2023 |
| Historical sales | More than 1 million sales over 20 years, about 30,000 per month on average | Chrono24’s marketplace sales history across two decades, not only the index basket | Launch announcement, October 20, 2023 |
| Transactions in the index | More than 600,000 | The transaction base described on the live ChronoPulse page | Live ChronoPulse page, accessed October 8, 2026 |
| Base value | 1,000 points on January 1, 2019 | Starting level of the historical series | Live ChronoPulse page, accessed October 8, 2026 |
| Q1 2025 movement | Index down 3%; four brands recorded increases | Index result for the first quarter of 2025, as reported by Chrono24 | Chrono24 market update, April 29, 2025 |
The 1 million sales figure and the 600,000 transaction figure use different labels and time frames. The launch announcement describes two decades of marketplace activity, while the live page describes the transactions feeding the index. Chrono24 does not reconcile the two in the material reviewed for this article, so neither should be presented as a substitute for the other.
Rank #3
- Pre-Loved Condition: Excellent; Faint scratching to hardware

- Made in Switzerland

How to read the index
Index points and the base date
ChronoPulse uses index points. The series starts at 1,000 on January 1, 2019. Chrono24 says that a change in points indicates the percentage change, and that this lets readers compare indices regardless of the price level of the watches in each one. Because the scale is relative, a move from 1,000 to 970 is a 3% decline, whatever the individual watches cost. That example is an illustration of the arithmetic, not a reported reading.
Update cadence and rebalancing
According to the launch announcement, the index data is updated daily. The selection and weighting of brands and models is adjusted every six months. Those two cadences matter for interpretation: daily data updates mean the index can move from day to day, but the basket itself changes on a slower schedule, so long-run comparisons involve a basket that has been revised.

What a single reading tells you
- Check the date range first. A quarterly or multi-year move says more than a single data point.
- Read the change as a percentage, using the points.
- Confirm which brands and models are in the basket before applying the trend to your watch.
The Q1 2025 update
Chrono24’s market update dated April 29, 2025 reported that the index fell 3% in the first quarter of 2025, and that four brands recorded increases. This is the index’s result for that period as reported by the company. It is not an independent census of every secondary-market sale. The most recent dated movement figure cited in this article is from that update, so check the live ChronoPulse page for later readings before drawing conclusions about the current market.
What ChronoPulse does not tell you
- It does not appraise your watch. The index tracks a basket of 140 models in aggregate. It does not price a specific watch with its own condition, documentation or service history.
- It does not guarantee a sale price. A trend in the index is not a quote for what a particular watch will bring.
- It does not forecast returns. Chrono24’s description does not establish that historical movement predicts future value.
- It is not every sale in the global market. The data come from Chrono24’s marketplace, and the company describes them as anonymized first-party sales data.
- It is not independent of Chrono24. The company operates the marketplace supplying the data and publishes the index. No independent validation of the index is established in the sources reviewed for this article.
Reading ChronoPulse alongside other price sources
When you compare ChronoPulse with another index or a watch valuation, check five things: whether the data are completed transactions or asking prices; which brands and models are included; the geographic and time coverage; how the index is weighted and how often it is revised; and whether the output is an aggregate index or a valuation of an individual watch. Chrono24’s public ChronoPulse pages establish its own data source, scope, point scale and cadence. They do not provide the evidence needed for a numerical side-by-side comparison with another index, so this article does not make one.

Using the index when you buy or sell
Chrono24 Magazine’s launch coverage, dated October 31, 2023, framed the index around three questions readers ask: “How much is your watch really worth?” “When is the best time to sell your watch?” and “And when is the best time to purchase a new one for your collection?” ChronoPulse speaks most directly to the timing questions. It does not answer the first one for a specific watch.
Quick Recap
- For a model in the basket, look at the trend across the period that matters to you rather than a single reading.
- Price your own watch against current listings of the same reference, condition and documentation before deciding.
- Remember that the index moves with its basket. A model outside the 140 tracked may behave differently from the index.
