What “Symbol of the Seas” refers to
The phrase is not the name of a Royal Caribbean ship. Citizen used it for a 2022 Save the BEYOND campaign and for the Promaster BN0225-04L, a special limited edition of 5,000 watches. Citizen’s campaign and product page describes the model as inspired by the 1982 Professional Diver and by the whale shark’s white spots against the deep blue of tropical seas.
Save the BEYOND is a worldwide campaign co-organized by PROMASTER and HISTORY and running since 2019, according to Citizen Japan’s campaign overview. Its campaign material discusses whale sharks through interviews with marine scientist Gonzalo Araujo, dive instructor Ahmed Nasheed “Lonu,” and marine biologist Dr. Mark Erdmann.

What the conservation connection does—and does not—say
Citizen said a portion of sales revenue from the model would support Conservation International’s marine conservation activities. The campaign page excludes sales in China and Indonesia, but does not give a per-watch contribution or establish that a resale transaction supports the initiative. The statement describes the campaign’s intended connection, not a quantified donation for an individual purchase.
Citizen’s campaign page also describes whale sharks as endangered and says they can reach 50 feet in length. Those are campaign statements; the page does not provide a population-trend figure. It attributes to Conservation International work spanning more than 6 million square kilometers (2.3 million square miles) of land and sea across more than 70 countries; those figures describe the organization’s work, not the watch or Citizen’s own research.

Can you still buy the BN0225-04L?
Citizen Japan marks the model as no longer on sale. That establishes the end of official sales there, not the availability of a particular watch in another market or on the secondary market. Current resale stock and asking prices are not established here; check live listings if you are shopping.
When evaluating a listing, confirm the reference is BN0225-04L and assess the seller, condition, and what is included. A used or resale purchase should not be assumed to qualify for Citizen’s historical conservation-revenue initiative.
