What are the original Photic Diver’s specifications?
Fratello’s September 2021 review describes the original Photic Diver as a three-hand watch with a rotating bezel, a display case back and 200m water resistance. The review reports these launch-era specifications:

How good is it to wear?
Fratello’s reviewer praised the proportions and described wearing the review watch for everyday errands and a pool visit. The 39mm diameter paired with a 47mm lug-to-lug gives a useful starting point for judging fit, though wrist shape and strap or bracelet configuration also affect how a watch wears.

The same review sample had rough lume application on some indices and slightly uneven lumed hand surfaces. The reviewer said legibility remained good. Those are observations about one reviewed sample, not evidence that all production watches share the finish issues.
The published review supports a straightforward assessment: the original offered compact dimensions, a recognized automatic movement and a substantial stated water-resistance rating, with some cosmetic lume imperfections on the sample Fratello examined. It does not provide a head-to-head test against another diver or establish long-term reliability.

What movement does the original use?
The original uses a Miyota 9039 automatic movement. Fratello reports a 42-hour power reserve. That reserve is the figure given in the 2021 review; it should not be confused with the regulated accuracy Clemence publishes for the later MKII.
Can you still buy the original Photic Diver?
Clemence’s official Photic Diver page says the original sold out in 2022 and points to the MKII as its evolution. That establishes the maker’s stated status, not current secondary-market inventory. Availability from private sellers or resale platforms is not established here, so check the specific seller, condition, included accessories and service history before considering a pre-owned example.

How does the original compare with the Photic MKII?
The MKII is a later generation. Its current product page gives it different case dimensions and additional construction details; those should not be retroactively assigned to the 2021 original.

The available information supports a specification comparison, not a claim that the MKII is categorically better or a direct performance comparison between the two generations.

What should you check when considering a compact microbrand diver?
Use the Photic’s published dimensions and stated rating as comparison points, not as a complete buying verdict. For any candidate, check:
- Fit: diameter, lug-to-lug length and thickness, then the actual strap or bracelet fit on your wrist.
- Movement: caliber, stated reserve and any accuracy specification; distinguish manufacturer claims from independent measurements.
- Water resistance: the stated rating and any supporting certification. A 200m claim alone does not establish certification as a dive instrument.
- Construction and usability: bezel and crystal materials, bezel operation, lume execution, bracelet adjustment and strap compatibility.
- Ownership support: warranty terms, service options and whether the exact generation is currently available.
Clemence says on its About page, “Our watches are assembled by hand, in Britain.” This is the brand’s statement about its assembly; it does not by itself establish where every component is made.
