The distinction between practical and social motives matters. A buyer who wants a good-looking watch for less money is making a different decision from one who wants other people to read a brand on their wrist. Most accounts of repeat buying blur these two, and the blurring is one reason individual explanations are hard to generalise.
Why a retailer’s list is not the same as buyer research
Hank Swiss Watches sells genuine watches, and its page argues that counterfeits harm legitimate watch businesses and erode buyer trust. That interest shapes how it describes the people who buy replicas. What repeat buying would need to explain
Serial buying is the harder question. A first purchase can be explained by a single moment of curiosity or a low price. A second and third purchase suggests something that persists after the initial reason is gone. Several explanations are plausible, but none is established by the material available:
- A satisfying experience with an earlier purchase, which then encourages the next one.
- An ongoing wish to try different designs at a price that makes experimentation affordable.
- A social circle or online community in which replica ownership is normal.
- Unresolved dissatisfaction with genuine watches that the buyer cannot afford.
Each of these is a hypothesis. Distinguishing among them would require buyers’ own accounts, gathered directly and attributed to named people who agree to be quoted.

Consequences claimed and what is not yet measured
The retailer’s position also includes claims about harm to legitimate businesses and to buyer trust. Those are arguments about the market, not measurements of it. The accessible material does not establish the size of the replica market, the number of people who buy repeatedly, or the economic effect of any single purchase. - Is the person quoted named, and did they speak directly to the author?
- Is the buyer’s own reason separated from a general claim about the industry?
- Does the piece state how many people it spoke to, or how it chose them?
- Does a number come with a date, a region and a measurement method?
- Is the source selling a competing product or otherwise interested in the outcome?
Most accounts of this subject fail at least one of these tests. That is not a reason to dismiss them, but it is a reason to report them as one person’s view or one seller’s position rather than as a description of buyers as a group.
What remains open
The question of why people buy replica watches repeatedly remains open in the material available for this article. Cost, status and design appeal are plausible motives with a named commercial source. Whether they explain repeat purchases, and how often, has not been shown.
