d.m.h. stands for Dingemans Mechanische Horloges, the watchmaking atelier of Fred Dingemans. Its independence is visible in the work he does himself: designing cases and crown construction and making components in his workshop with restored machinery. It does not mean every part is made in-house; the atelier uses refurbished NOS Tenor Dorley movements. The 2024 Jump Hour is a particularly clear example of that balance between individual workshop craft and specialist movement sourcing.
What makes d.m.h. an independent watchmaker?
Fred Dingemans came to watchmaking from a career in fine mechanics. According to the atelier’s About page, he acquired machinery for making watch parts and restored old machines associated with his father. His workshop is in an atelier behind his home.
Dingemans says he designs the case and crown construction and produces parts in-house on those restored machines. That is substantial hands-on production, but not total vertical integration. The atelier’s account identifies its movements as new-old-stock (NOS) Tenor Dorley calibres. Master watchmaker Frans de Groot disassembles, cleans, oils and reassembles them before they are used.
A 2009 profile by Monochrome also described Dingemans as designing and producing the case, crown mechanism and dial, while sourcing items including the movement, hands, strap, screws and O-rings. That is a historical account of the watches described then, not a parts inventory for every later model.

How the 2024 Jump Hour displays time
The Jump Hour replaces the familiar hour hand with a disc that advances in a jump when the minute disc completes its rotation. In the configuration described in Monochrome’s 15 October 2024 report, a revolving minute disc works alongside the jumping hour disc, central seconds and a date disc. The time is read where the hour and minute discs meet the central axis of the seconds hand. Dingemans can configure the dial cutouts differently.
Monochrome identifies the movement in that Jump Hour as an automatic Tenor Dorley 1376 series, refurbished before installation. The report gives these movement specifications:
- 17 jewels
- 21,600 vibrations per hour
- Maximum stated running time of 48 hours
These figures apply to the movement described in the 2024 report; the official About page confirms the use and refurbishment of NOS Tenor Dorley movements but does not specify the 1376 series.

The disc display gives the watch a distinctive mechanical character, but it differs from the instant familiarity of conventional hour and minute hands. The reported layout also places several indications on the dial—hour, minutes, seconds and date—so buyers should consider whether this display suits how they prefer to read a watch.
Production figures and what they establish
The atelier’s About page states that d.m.h. produces 24 pieces a year. Monochrome’s 2009 profile reported 12 watches a year at that time. The figures differ, and the available sources do not explain whether production changed or whether the statements count different things. They should be understood as statements from different sources and dates, not combined into a single production rate.

Price and ordering context
Monochrome reported a starting price of €2,795 excluding VAT for the Jump Hour in October 2024. The article described unique made-to-order pieces and a lead time of a little over a year at that time, and directed prospective buyers to the maker. Those are publication-era details, not confirmation of the price, availability, ordering terms or wait time in 2026. Contact d.m.h. directly for current information.
How the 2009 report differs
The 2009 Monochrome profile described a different presentation of d.m.h. watches: a 40 mm stainless-steel case, mineral crystals and 30 m water resistance, with a reported price of approximately €1,000–€1,500. Those historical details should not be read as specifications or pricing for the 2024 Jump Hour.
