Its yellow-gold double-ellipse case and Clou de Paris dial recall Daniel Roth’s early design language, while its manually wound DR001 is a newly developed movement. The launch was limited to 20 pieces and carried a reported price of CHF 140,000 excluding taxes; those are 2024 launch details, not confirmation of current availability or value.
Why the Tourbillon marked Daniel Roth’s return
Daniel Roth was founded in 1988 and revived in 2023 with support from La Fabrique du Temps Louis Vuitton, according to LVMH. The Tourbillon Souscription was the first step in that revival. Its prototype was unveiled at LVMH Watch Week in Miami, held January 28 to February 1, 2024, as dated by LVMH; specialist publication SJX reported on it January 30.
The name “Souscription” identifies this debut release, rather than a general specification shared by every revived Daniel Roth watch. LVMH says a rose-gold edition followed the yellow-gold launch model, but that brand-level statement should not be read as confirmation that the later edition has identical specifications.
Case and dial: a modern take on the double ellipse
The debut reference is DR0011YG-01. SJX reports a 38.6 × 35.5 mm case, 9.2 mm thick, made in 18K yellow gold, with a sapphire crystal and 30 m water resistance. LVMH describes the dial as solid gold with Clou de Paris guilloché. The double-ellipse case is central to the design’s link with the house’s earlier watches.

LVMH’s page gives the signature double-ellipse case a “height” of 38 mm, a different and less fully specified measurement than SJX’s dimensions for this particular launch reference. It is therefore safer to use the reference-specific 38.6 × 35.5 mm measurements when describing the debut watch, rather than treating “38 mm” as its diameter or width.
SJX connects the styling to Daniel Roth designs of the 1990s and identifies reference 2187/C187 as the inaugural model from 1988. That is a design and historical comparison, not evidence that the revived watch reproduces the original movement or construction.

The DR001 movement
The DR001 is manually wound and drives a one-minute tourbillon. SJX reports a frequency of 3 Hz and an 80-hour power reserve. LVMH credits master watchmakers Michel Navas and Enrico Barbasini with developing the caliber and says it received the GPHG Tourbillon Watch Prize.
These specifications belong to the Tourbillon Souscription’s DR001. They should not be confused with the DR002 caliber used in the separate Extra Plat Souscription, which is covered on the official Daniel Roth site.

2024 edition size, launch availability and price
SJX reported that the yellow-gold Tourbillon Souscription was limited to 20 pieces, offered through selected retailers with delivery in 2024, at CHF 140,000 excluding taxes. LVMH also describes 20 as the number of Souscription pieces launched. These figures describe the release, not current stock, a present-day asking price or resale value.

The watch pairs recognizable house codes—the double-ellipse case and finely patterned gold dial—with a new movement rather than relying solely on vintage styling. That balance is the point of the debut: a visual reference to Daniel Roth’s earlier work alongside a contemporary caliber developed for the revived brand. The available product information establishes the design and specifications, but it does not establish Daniel Roth’s personal involvement in designing or building this particular watch.
