Oris still lists the Aquis Regulateur “Der Meistertaucher,” but its official product page says the 43 mm reference is not available online. That makes a return a wish, not an announced plan. The case for bringing it back is its unusual regulator dial: central minutes, with the hours and seconds shown separately.
What makes the Aquis Regulateur different?
A regulator watch separates its time indications instead of placing the hour, minute and seconds hands together on one central axis. On the Aquis Regulateur “Der Meistertaucher,” the minute hand takes the central position, the hours sit in a subdial at 3 o’clock, and the seconds appear at 9 o’clock. A date window is at 6 o’clock.
That layout gives the watch a distinct face and makes the minutes its visual focus. Fratello contributor Lex Stolk argues that emphasizing minutes suits dive timing, while noting that the arrangement takes some getting used to. That is an interpretation of the design, not a tested claim that it improves underwater safety or legibility. Stolk called the regulator dial the watch’s “most outstanding feature.” Read Stolk’s account at Fratello.
Is the Oris Aquis Regulateur discontinued?
Oris’s product page identifies reference 01 749 7677 7154-Set as the Aquis Regulateur “Der Meistertaucher,” but states: “Sorry, this model is not available online.” The page suggests trying an Oris store. Oris also includes the family on its archived-watch pages, which places it among archived models in the brand’s catalog. Neither fact amounts to an announcement about future production. Why do specifications differ across the model’s history?
“Der Meistertaucher” has appeared in multiple versions, and their dimensions and depth ratings are not interchangeable. In a 2022 history of the watch, Stolk traces the model to 1999 and describes several distinct generations:
- Early version: a 44 mm titanium watch rated to 1,000 m.
- 2009 version: a 49 mm watch rated to 1,000 m.
- Later Aquis-style version: a 43 mm watch rated to 300 m.
- Tubbataha variant: a 46 mm watch rated to 500 m.
- 2020 final iteration in Stolk’s account: reference 01 749 7734 7154-Set, measuring 43.5 mm and rated to 300 m.
These historical dimensions and ratings are from Stolk’s account, not a single specification sheet covering the whole family. The 43 mm, 30-bar current listing above is a separate reference and should be judged on its own published specifications. Stolk’s model history.
Stolk describes the original caliber 649 as based on the ETA 2836-2, with a module that creates the central-minutes, subsidiary-hours-and-seconds display. He says later versions used caliber 749, based on the Sellita SW220-1. For the currently listed reference, Oris specifies caliber 749 and a 38-hour reserve.

What would a return need to preserve?
The essential feature is the divided display, especially the central minute hand. A redesign could update the case or materials, but abandoning the regulator layout would remove the reason this model stands apart from an ordinary Aquis.
Stolk’s 2022 proposal was a smaller contemporary case and material changes, including recycled titanium and a reclaimed-PET dial. In a December 2022 follow-up, he revised the case-material suggestion and proposed 3D-printed carbon. These are ideas from an enthusiast article, not materials Oris has announced for a new watch. Any reissue would also need its own clearly stated reference-specific dimensions and water-resistance rating. The family history shows why carrying a rating or size from one generation to another would be misleading.
What to check when considering a pre-owned example
The sources cited here do not establish current pre-owned prices or seller availability. If you are evaluating a particular watch, verify its reference and condition rather than relying on the family name alone.
Quick Recap
- Confirm the reference number and compare it with documentation for that exact version.
- Check the case diameter and published water-resistance rating for that reference.
- Ask which movement it contains and review available service records.
- Confirm the condition and provenance, including whether the seller can substantiate the watch’s history.
- Check which bracelet, straps, tools and presentation items are actually included; do not assume every version came with the same set.
