Vacheron Constantin, bring back the brown-dial Overseas 4500V. The discontinued 4500V/110A-B146 gave the third-generation steel Overseas a rarer, warmer character than its blue- and silver-dial counterparts. That is a matter of taste, not a claim that brown is objectively better—but it is exactly why the color deserves another chance.
What made the brown Overseas different?
The blue and silver dials established the third-generation Overseas when it arrived in 2016. The brown 4500V followed in May that year, according to watch writer Jorg Weppelink’s account in Fratello’s November 6, 2022 article. Where blue reads as a familiar sports-watch choice and silver as a cooler, more restrained one, brown gives the steel case a warmer, less expected presence. The dial’s appeal is its sense of depth and sophistication; whether that suits a wearer is personal.
That specific combination matters. This is a case for the brown dial on reference 4500V/110A-B146, not a blanket claim about every Overseas generation or configuration. Weppelink says the reference was produced for one year before leaving the collection. That brief run helps explain why the color feels distinctive, though the production history here is the author’s account rather than an independently corroborated manufacturer record.
How the 4500V balances color and function
The brown dial was not the watch’s only point of interest. The reference paired it with the recognizable tonneau-shaped steel Overseas case and a movement suited to everyday wear.

The practical appeal of the design is that the unusual color sits within a package that remains recognizably an Overseas rather than turning the watch into a purely dress-oriented statement.
Three ways to wear the brown dial
The original watch was supplied with three interchangeable options: a stainless-steel bracelet, a brown leather strap, and a brown rubber strap, according to Fratello. They give the same dial different contexts. The bracelet emphasizes the integrated-steel sports-watch look; leather makes the palette feel more formal and tonal; rubber leans into casual, active wear. Those are styling distinctions, not claims of measured performance or a guarantee that any present-day replacement strap will fit.

That range is part of the revival argument: the dial is distinctive without dictating a single way to wear the watch. The brown can be the focal point on steel or become part of a coordinated warm palette on leather or rubber.
Why ask for a revival rather than settle for blue or silver?
A blue or silver dial may be the better choice for someone who wants a more familiar or restrained look. But the brown version offered something those alternatives did not: a less common color that changes the mood of the same 41 mm steel design. The useful comparison is personal style and visual contrast, not a performance contest. The source provides no measured legibility comparison among the dial colors, and it does not establish current availability for the blue or silver configurations.

Weppelink’s November 2022 article also gives a sense of the model’s then-market context: it lists an original 2016 price of €21,700 and reports observed pre-owned asking prices of roughly €37,500–€65,000 in 2022. Those are historical article figures—not current prices, verified sale prices, or a guide to what a buyer should pay today.

The cited article makes an author’s case for a return, not a report of a Vacheron Constantin reissue plan. It offers no evidence that the brand intends to revive the brown dial. The strongest reason to ask is simpler: the color gave a recognizable sports watch a distinctive identity, and its reported one-year run made that version unusually brief.

Bring back the brown Overseas—not because every collector needs another dial option, but because this particular shade made the 4500V feel like its own watch. A new edition need not copy every detail of the 2016 reference; it would simply need to preserve the warm, deep character that made the original stand apart.
