The rumor began with 2022 reports about regulatory filings for engineering samples; it was never a product announcement. In January 2024, Fossil Group’s chief operating officer said the company had decided to exit the smartwatch business, changing the outlook for either watch.
Why did people expect a Fossil Gen 7?
In April 2022, Notebookcheck reported that FCC filings for sample devices DW14 and DW15 included model variants DW14F1, DW14S1, DW15F1 and DW15S1. The report associated the F1 and S1 variants with Fossil and Skagen marketing names, respectively, and interpreted the devices as possible successors to the Gen 6 watches. That made a Gen 7 plausible, but a regulatory filing for engineering samples is not proof of a finished product, a launch date or retail availability. Notebookcheck’s April 26, 2022 report is the source for the filing details; the underlying FCC documents were not independently verified here.
What did the reported samples show?
Notebookcheck reported the following dimensions and weights for the engineering samples, including straps. These are sample measurements, not confirmed specifications for retail Fossil Gen 7 or Skagen Falster Gen 7 watches.

Notebookcheck also reported that the FCC treated the F1 and S1 variants as identical apart from their marketing model names. It noted a CB846E-6040-102 charger, the same model used with earlier Fossil smartwatches. That historical detail does not establish that a Gen 7 charger was released or that the accessory is currently available. Notebookcheck’s filing report contains the sample and charger information.

What happened to the planned watches?
In January 2024, Fossil Group COO Jeff Boyer confirmed the company had made a strategic decision to exit the smartwatch business. Boyer said: “As the smartwatch landscape has evolved significantly over the past few years, we have made the strategic decision to exit the smartwatch business.” He also said Fossil Group would redirect resources toward traditional watches, jewelry and leather goods. Wareable reported Boyer’s statement on January 29, 2024.
Fossil Group’s wearables announcement archive includes Gen 6 and Skagen Falster Gen 6 announcements, but a Gen 7 retail launch announcement did not surface in the archive search. That search alone cannot establish that no announcement or listing exists anywhere. Taken together with the company’s stated exit, however, the available evidence does not support treating either Gen 7 as a launched product.

How Gen 6 fits into the story
Fossil Group announced the Skagen Falster Gen 6 on January 5, 2022. The company described it as a Wear OS smartwatch based on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Wear 4100+ platform. Those claims came from Fossil Group and Qualcomm representatives in the announcement, so they are company and partner statements rather than independent product testing. The release provides useful context for the generation that was on sale before the Gen 7 rumor, but it does not confirm a Gen 7. Fossil Group’s Skagen Falster Gen 6 announcement.
