No. Apple Watch Ultra has no built-in camera. Its Camera Remote app lets you view and control a nearby iPhone’s camera from your wrist, so the iPhone—not the watch—takes and saves the photo or video.
What Camera Remote does—and what it doesn’t
Apple describes Camera Remote as a way to use Apple Watch as a viewfinder for the iPhone camera and capture photos or videos from a distance. The watch supplies controls and a preview; it does not contain camera hardware.
With the app, you can preview the iPhone camera view, zoom with the Digital Crown, adjust exposure, set the timer or flash, switch between the front and rear cameras, take a photo, record video, and review the resulting shots. Captured media is saved in the iPhone Photos app. Apple’s Camera Remote guide explains the feature.
What you need to take a photo remotely
- Bring the iPhone: Camera Remote controls the camera on a nearby iPhone; it cannot take a picture without one.
- Keep the devices connected: Apple says the watch must be within the iPhone’s normal Bluetooth range, approximately 33 feet (10 meters). That is an approximate range, not a guaranteed maximum in every environment.
- Position the iPhone: Open Camera Remote on the watch, frame the shot using its viewfinder, and use the available controls to capture the image or video.
For steadier framing, Apple suggests placing the iPhone on a stable surface or using a tripod. A tripod is an optional accessory for positioning the iPhone; it does not add a camera to the watch.

Why the specifications say no camera
Apple’s Apple Watch Ultra 4 technical specifications list hardware such as microphones, speakers, antennas, buttons, and sensors, but do not list a camera. The supported conclusion from Apple’s published hardware information is that the Ultra has no built-in camera.
Apple identifies Apple Watch Ultra 4 as introduced in 2026. Product lines and specifications can change, so check the specifications for the exact Ultra model you are considering if you are reading this after a later release. Apple’s Apple Watch Ultra 4 Manuals and Downloads page identifies the model’s introduction year.
