The maker identifies this as the second-generation, 2024 FOIS powered by Omega’s Calibre 3861. Match the complete reference, not just the “FOIS” name, to the maker’s list.
Why does the newer FOIS need its own caseback listing?
The 2024 FOIS is a distinct generation from earlier FOIS watches. Spiralwinder’s older Speedmaster caseback page says that design fits some 1861 FOIS models but is not designed for the newer 3861 Speedmaster or other 3861-equipped watches. It also notes threading-related exceptions for certain CK2998 variants and Tokyo 2020 models. That is why “FOIS” by itself is not enough to determine fit.

Omega’s 3 October 2024 announcement describes the current FOIS as a 39.70 mm steel watch with a grey-blue dial and Co-Axial Master Chronometer Calibre 3861. The model draws on the CK 2998, first released in 1959. Astronaut Walter “Wally” Schirra bought a CK 2998 personally and wore it on the Sigma 7 Mercury mission launched on 3 October 1962, the history behind the “First Omega in Space” name. Omega’s announcement also lists the model in black or brown leather-strap and metal-bracelet configurations.
What changes when you install an exhibition back?
The factory caseback carries a Seahorse medallion and the engravings “SPEEDMASTER”, “THE FIRST OMEGA IN SPACE” and “OCTOBER 3, 1962”, according to Omega. Spiralwinder’s replacement is intended to let the owner view the movement instead. The original back can be kept, so the change need not mean discarding the commemorative caseback.

Spiralwinder describes its part as a low-profile design with a precision-machined 316L stainless-steel outer ring, scratch-resistant sapphire crystal and colorless multilayer anti-reflective coating. Those are the maker’s specifications; the product page does not provide independent test results for fit, durability or anti-reflective performance.
What does it cost, and what should you confirm first?
Spiralwinder listed the part at $113.49 on 12 October 2026. That is a dated listing, not a guaranteed current price or evidence of availability through another retailer.

The available product and Omega pages do not establish installation requirements, post-installation water-resistance performance, or warranty consequences. Before changing the back, ask a qualified watchmaker or Omega service provider about installation and appropriate testing, and do not assume the factory water-resistance rating still applies after the modification.
