In Rob Nudds’s 2021 review, that boldness is the point—and also the reason the 43 mm watch will not suit everyone. Here is what the design is doing, what the pictured 85303-3NN-VB offers on paper, and what to weigh before deciding whether the mix works for you.
Why does the Delfin Mecano look so familiar?
The green-accented Edox Delfin Mecano shown in Rob Nudds’s August 30, 2021 Fratello review has a ten-sided bezel with six rivets and a six-spoke skeleton dial. Nudds reads the bezel as evoking Royal Oak and Hublot design cues, while the dial recalls Zenith Defy Skeleton models. He also points to the way the case joins the rubber strap as reminiscent of Audemars Piguet. These are the reviewer’s visual comparisons, not claims that the watches are identical or that Edox copied another maker.
Nudds situates the styling within the Delfin line, which he says dates to the 1960s, and describes its 1980s design as taking on a Genta-like appearance. That history is part of his interpretation of the watch’s references, rather than a complete brand chronology.
His answer to whether the clash is too much is essentially a matter of taste: he finds the combination uncompromising and attention-getting, but the size and visual force are not for him. As he put it, “At 43mm and with a design that could probably be heard from Jupiter, this is one wrist weapon I don’t feel able to handle.”

What are the specifications of reference 85303-3NN-VB?
Edox Japan’s regional product listing gives these specifications for the green-accented 85303-3NN-VB. They are manufacturer-listed details, not independent test results, and the page’s price and availability apply to Japan.

The review describes the Edox 853 as “based on” the Sellita SW-200. That qualification belongs to the review; the official listing cited here identifies the movement as Edox 853 but does not establish that description. THREEC, a retailer, separately lists the reference as 43 mm, water-resistant to 200 m, rubber-strapped, and fitted with the Edox 853 with a 42-hour reserve. Its page also states a two-year warranty; check the applicable terms with the seller in your market.

How much does it cost?
Prices depend on market and date. Fratello quoted €1,550 as the retail price in its August 30, 2021 review. Edox Japan’s product page lists ¥385,000 including tax for 85303-3NN-VB; that is a Japan-market listing that may change, not a current price estimate for Europe or the United States.
Nudds regarded the watch as striking and reasonably positioned for its materials and design, while questioning whether it could compete easily with more original designs at a similar price. That is his value judgment, not a measured comparison of rival watches.

What should you consider before choosing it?
- Fit and presence: The 43 mm diameter and prominent skeleton styling make wrist fit and visual impact central considerations. The listed thickness is 12.5 mm.
- Design taste: The appeal depends on whether you enjoy the blend of recognizable sports-watch cues or would rather have a more visually distinct approach.
- What the specifications establish: Edox Japan lists a 200 m water-resistance rating and an automatic movement with a 42-hour reserve. Those figures have not been independently tested in the sources cited here.
- Compare locally: Assess alternatives by case dimensions, movement and stated reserve, water-resistance rating, strap-to-case integration, visual character, and price in your market. The cited sources do not provide a complete comparison dataset for rival models.
Are all Delfin Mecano versions the same?
No. The 2021 review names references 85303-3NN-VB, 85303-357GNR-NRN, and 85303-357RN-NRN, and mentions purple- and black-accented versions. The confirmed specifications above are for 85303-3NN-VB; do not assume the other references share its exact strap, finish, specifications, price, or current availability.
