“Double Denim” is a watch-press nickname for three blue-gray Patek Philippe watches introduced in 2024—not a claim that all three have denim straps. The World Time Date 5330G-001 and Nautilus 5980/60G-001 come with denim-pattern calfskin; the Aquanaut Travel Time 5164G-001 has a patterned composite strap. Their main difference is what they do: world time with a local-time-linked date, a flyback chronograph, or dual-time travel time.
What “Double Denim” means
The nickname refers to the blue-gray palette and casual patterned straps shared by the three watches. It is useful shorthand, but the strap materials differ: only the World Time and one of the Nautilus’s supplied straps are denim-pattern calfskin. World Time Date 5330G-001: world time with a synchronized date
The 5330G-001 is the most unusual complication of the trio. Patek Philippe says its date display follows the selected local time zone: the city at 12 o’clock identifies that zone, and the central hands show its time. A red-tipped transparent glass hand points to the date around the dial. The self-winding caliber 240 HU C uses a patented differential system.

The reference first appeared as a limited edition at Patek Philippe’s “Watch Art” grand exhibition in Tokyo in June 2023, then joined the regular collection in 2024. In its 9 April 2024 release, Patek called the local-time-synchronized date display a patented world first. The company’s 2024 announcement describes the collection transition.
Nautilus 5980/60G-001: a chronograph with two strap options
The 5980/60G-001 is the chronograph choice. Its self-winding CH 28-520 C caliber drives a flyback chronograph, date, and a monocounter that combines 60-minute and 12-hour elapsed-time indications. At 12.2 mm thick, it is the thickest of the three by Patek Philippe’s listed case measurements.

It is also the only watch here listed with two straps: denim-pattern blue-gray calfskin with white stitching, plus blue-gray composite with a fabric pattern. That second strap makes the Nautilus the clearest bridge between the calfskin styling and the Aquanaut’s composite construction.
Aquanaut Travel Time 5164G-001: two time zones in a slimmer case
The 5164G-001 is built around travel time rather than a world-time display or chronograph. Its skeletonized hand indicates home time and its solid hand indicates local time. Day/night indications distinguish both zones, while the date is coupled to local time. The self-winding movement is housed in the thinnest case in this group at 10.2 mm, although its 40.8 mm diameter is the largest listed.

Its blue-gray strap is patterned composite, not denim-pattern calfskin. That distinction matters if “Double Denim” is being taken literally rather than as a description of the collection’s color and styling.
Are these Pateks too casual?
The nickname points to a real stylistic departure from the more formal impression many readers associate with complicated white-gold watches, but “too casual” is a matter of taste, not a technical judgment. The blue-gray color and textile-like patterns soften the visual formality; the watches remain complicated white-gold Patek Philippe models. The strap distinction also changes the effect: the calfskin references lean more directly into the denim look, while the composite Aquanaut retains its own patterned strap design.

For an aftermarket Nautilus-specific denim strap, Fratello cited Visconti Milano at €275 in April 2024. That was a third-party accessory, not a Patek Philippe strap; its current price, fit, and availability are not established.

- Choose the 5980/60G-001 if the flyback chronograph and its combined 60-minute/12-hour counter matter most, or if you want the option of either supplied strap.
- Choose the 5164G-001 if you need home and local time indications, with day/night information for both zones, in the thinnest case of this trio.
All three product pages list 30 m water resistance. That specification is not a measure of strap durability or an invitation to treat these patterned straps as equivalent materials.
