What is the Ématelier aftermarket Datejust 41?
It is a reported customization built around a Rolex Datejust 41, with a decorative cloisonné-enamel dial recalling earlier Rolex dial art. The available account describes the altered watch, but does not establish its exact base reference or provide documentation from Rolex or Ématelier confirming the final configuration. It should therefore be understood as an aftermarket-modified Rolex platform, not a factory Datejust variant.
The story’s surviving copy reports that the enamel dial is thicker than a conventional dial and that the calendar complication was removed to make room. How does a cloisonné-enamel dial work?
Cloisonné creates separate compartments for enamel by placing thin metal partitions on a surface. Enamel is applied within the resulting cells and fired, allowing distinct colors and shapes to form a detailed image. Ématelier’s technical description says its process uses gold ribbon just 0.1 mm thick to divide the enamel areas.
