NOMOS Glashütte is an independent German watchmaker whose collection ranges from hand-wound dress watches to automatic sports and world-time models. The practical way to compare its watches is by fit, winding and movement, complications, intended use, and the price and availability of the exact reference in your market—not by brand reputation alone.

What is NOMOS Glashütte?

NOMOS describes itself as an independent watch manufacture based in Glashütte, Germany. Its current homepage says the company makes watches in its own manufacture there and lists 13 model families and 13 mechanical calibers. These are the brand’s own statements; they do not mean every component in every watch is made locally. NOMOS Glashütte homepage

Glashütte is a protected place-of-origin designation. NOMOS’s explainer says at least 50 percent of a watch’s value creation must take place locally to use the designation. The page also says that up to 95 percent of NOMOS’s mechanical watches are made by the company in Glashütte. NOMOS does not define the denominator for that latter figure in the cited explanation, so it should be read as a company claim, not an independently audited component count. NOMOS on Glashütte

NOMOS’s 2025 facts, figures and identity document says the company makes watches mostly by hand and sells them in over 60 countries worldwide. Both statements are attributable to NOMOS; the country figure is specifically its 2025 figure. NOMOS 2025 facts, figures and identity

What is the NOMOS collection like?

The official online catalogue describes more than 180 versions. Options span different sizes and dial colors, hand-wound and automatic movements, and watches with or without complications. Catalogue counts, stock and regional pricing can change. NOMOS German watch catalogue

Model families

The catalogue includes families such as Tangente, Ahoi, Autobahn, Tangomat, Zürich, Lux and Lambda; NOMOS’s homepage gives 13 as the total number of families. Each family represents a distinct design and use case, but the cited overview does not establish complete model-by-model specifications. Check the current listing for the particular reference rather than assuming that every watch in a family shares the same movement, size or features.

Tangente and the brand’s own description

NOMOS’s 2025 facts document calls Tangente “the icon of the NOMOS collection and probably the most well-known mechanical wristwatch made in Germany.” That is the company’s characterization, not an independent ranking or measured popularity result. NOMOS 2025 facts, figures and identity

How to compare NOMOS watches

Use the catalogue filters for model family, segment, size, price and availability, then compare the details on each exact reference. A diameter alone does not determine how a watch wears; check case dimensions and lug-to-lug length for the reference where those specifications are provided.

  • Fit: Start with case size, then look for case dimensions and lug-to-lug measurements. Consider how the case shape and lugs sit on your wrist.
  • Winding and movement: The catalogue distinguishes automatic from hand-wound watches. Choose based on your preference for winding the watch yourself or having an automatic movement.
  • Complications: Confirm whether a specific listing includes features such as a date, power reserve or world time. Do not infer a complication from a family name or appearance.
  • Intended use: NOMOS groups watches into segments including dress, sports, worldtimer and smaller-size options. Use these as a starting point, then assess the reference’s actual dimensions and functions.
  • Price and availability: Check the current store page for your region or ask a retailer. Availability and prices are not universal across markets.

What do NOMOS watches cost, and how accurate are they?

Prices depend on the model and market. Examples shown in the German catalogue search results included Tangente neomatik 39 from €3,160, Orion 38 from €2,120, and Tangente Sport neomatik 42 Datum at €4,600. These are German-store examples, not guaranteed current prices elsewhere; confirm the exact reference and current regional listing before buying. NOMOS German watch catalogue

NOMOS’s Glashütte explainer says its watches start at €1,300, most of its multiple award-winning models cost below €4,000, and its gold haute-horlogerie models retail below €16,000. These are manufacturer-published price statements, and prices may change. NOMOS on Glashütte

On accuracy, the same explainer says performance depends on the caliber and conditions including temperature fluctuations, jolts and air pressure. NOMOS describes its watches as deviating by a few seconds per day; this is the manufacturer’s general statement, not a universal guarantee for every watch or wearing condition. NOMOS on Glashütte

Do NOMOS watches hold their value?

Resale value is not dependable from brand name alone. NOMOS’s explainer makes claims about watches retaining or increasing value, but it does not provide independently verified resale data establishing a predictable outcome. A particular watch’s resale depends on its model, condition, market and timing. If this matters to your decision, compare recent transactions for the same reference and account for its condition and service history rather than treating appreciation as an expected return.

What should you check before buying?

  1. Identify the exact reference. Confirm its model family, size, movement, winding type and complications on the current catalogue or retailer listing.
  2. Check the fit information. Compare case dimensions and lug-to-lug length where listed, and try the watch on if possible.
  3. Verify your local price and stock. Catalogue inventory and prices vary by region and can change.
  4. Read the warranty terms for that purchase. NOMOS’s FAQ says problems resulting from improper treatment are excluded from warranty coverage. It also says customers can generally route a watch through a retailer for service and arrange preapproval up to a certain amount. The cited FAQ does not establish a warranty duration, complete exclusions, service turnaround or current service pricing; check the warranty card and local terms. NOMOS FAQ
  5. Check the manual for service guidance. A service interval should not be assumed to apply to every current model; consult the operating instructions for the exact watch.
  6. If resale matters, review comparable sales and service records. A brand-level claim cannot establish the future value of an individual watch.

Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change. Any price and availability information displayed on Amazon at the time of purchase will apply.
