Excelsior Park earned its reputation making stopwatches and chronograph movements—not only watches bearing its own name. After the historic company disappeared in the early 1980s, the name resurfaced in a modern collection: first with chronographs inspired by vintage designs, then with a time-only model. The revival carries forward the brand’s visual language, but the available evidence does not establish that its new watches use original Excelsior Park calibres.
Why Excelsior Park mattered in chronograph history
Excelsior Park’s roots are in St-Imier, Switzerland, although its own published history acknowledges a complicated origin involving similarly named Jeanneret businesses. The brand says the Excelsior name was first used for chronographs and that “Park” was later added for the English-speaking market. It dates the company name Les Fils de Jeanneret-Brehm, Excelsior Park to 1918, while other brand material gives a different founding year. The precise founding date is therefore unsettled; the clearer story is the company’s long specialization in timing instruments and chronograph movements.
According to the company’s history, Excelsior Park concentrated on stopwatches and chronographs from the early 1920s. It says it created a shaped wristwatch chronograph calibre in 1938, then produced that movement and variants for nearly four decades. The company supplied movements to other Swiss makers, including Gallet, Zenith, and Girard-Perregaux. Its account says Zenith used the EP 42 in its first wrist chronographs in 1938 and continued using Excelsior Park chronograph calibres for almost 30 years. That supplier role is a central part of the brand’s legacy: its influence extended beyond watches signed Excelsior Park.
The brand’s history also describes a 1945 chronograph based on calibre 4, with a separately controlled hand that made one rotation every 24 hours. Excelsior Park says the mechanism was patented in 1943 and later marketed by Gallet and Zenith as the Sextant. By the mid-1960s, the company’s range included a regatta-oriented Yachting model, a diver with a rotating bezel, and the Excel-O-Graph with a slide-rule bezel. These historical details come from the company’s own account.

What happened to the original company?
Excelsior Park says production continued into the 1970s and that the company disappeared around 1983–84 amid the quartz crisis. The name did not vanish permanently: German watch-tool supplier Fume acquired naming rights in 1986 and made a small series of watches under it, according to the brand’s history. That episode is distinct from the modern revival; it does not mean the original manufacturer continued operating.
What the 2020–21 revival brought back
Fratello reported that Excelsior Park had hinted at a comeback in 2020, then opened preorders for its first neo-vintage chronographs on December 8, 2021. The initial group comprised five designs drawing on historical EP models, with dual-register layouts and salmon, black, or white dials. Fratello author Balazs Ferenczi wrote that he had worn prototypes during November 2021 and described the cases as approximately 38.9 mm across and around 13 mm thick.

The launch watches paired historically inspired styling with a modern movement: a hand-wound Sellita SW510, not an original Excelsior Park calibre. Fratello reported a preorder price of €1,900 before VAT in 2021, with leather strap choices and both steel and exhibition casebacks included. Those are launch-era terms, not a current price or availability statement.
How the current models differ
The official product pages show two different directions: a time-only watch inspired by an earlier three-hand design, and a manual chronograph. Their functions, movements, and case measurements are not directly interchangeable.

The EP 884-SI expands the collection beyond the chronograph comeback, while retaining a reference to Excelsior Park’s own earlier design work. Its page also claims the historic brand had produced 32 different movements by 1922; that is the brand’s undated claim, not independently corroborated data. The EP95004 listing’s sold-out status is a snapshot, not a promise about future or present inventory.

They are historically inspired in design, but that is different from being equipped with historic Excelsior Park movements. Fratello’s account identifies a Sellita SW510 in the first revived chronographs, and the current EP 884-SI page identifies a hand-wound Landeron L21. The evidence here does not establish use of original EP calibres in the revived models. For a buyer, the useful distinction is between continuity of styling and continuity of movement manufacture: the former is part of the collection’s proposition; the latter should not be assumed.

- Confirm the exact model’s function: the EP 884-SI is time-only, while the EP95004 is a chronograph.
- Check the official listing for current price, available variants, and stock. The EP95004 page showed three strap variants sold out on October 8, 2026, and the 2021 preorder price is historical.
- Compare the winding type and calibre to your preference: the cited pages specify hand-wound Landeron L21 for the EP 884-SI and manual Sellita SW510 for the EP95004.
- Use the published case dimensions to assess fit, and note that the cited EP95004 page does not state lug-to-lug length.
