Its appeal is the way those functions are arranged: compared with the off-centred Octa Lune, the Automatique Lune gives the time display a more classical, easier-to-read place at the center. The current model uses the automatic Octa 1300.3 calibre and is listed by F.P. Journe in 40 mm and 42 mm sizes.
What the Automatique Lune displays
F.P. Journe’s current model page lists a central hours-and-minutes display, small seconds at 4:30, a large date, a power-reserve indicator at 9 o’clock and a moon phase. The indications share a dial, but the main time display remains the visual anchor.
The current boutique-collection page shows platinum and 18K 6N gold variants, with a blue guilloché silver dial and gold appliqué numerals. It lists 40 mm and 42 mm case diameters. Why the dial feels more legible
Monochrome’s 2022 review of the 2019 generation describes a gold dial galvanically surfaced in silver, with central Clous de Paris guilloché, Arabic numerals and a railroad minute track. The large date sits at 11 o’clock, the power-reserve display at 9, the moon phase at 7 and small seconds at 4:30. The central hands make the basic task of reading the time straightforward while the other indications occupy distinct areas.

Monochrome calls the date aperture enlarged and judges this arrangement more classical and legible than the off-centred indications of the Octa Lune. That is a reviewer’s comparative impression, not a measured legibility test. Fratello’s 2021 hands-on review also notes blue numerals and a blue track, a sapphire moon disc and two date discs on the same plane; its praise for the mix of practical and romantic complications is likewise a subjective assessment. Octa 1300.3: winding and power reserve
The watch uses F.P. Journe’s automatic Octa 1300.3, made in 18K rose gold. The manufacturer specifies unidirectional automatic winding, an off-centre rotor, 36 jewels, 271 components and a frequency of 3 Hz, or 21,600 beats per hour. Its stated autonomy is 160 ± 10 hours. The power-reserve display needs a little context. Fratello describes its 120-hour indication as the span associated with optimal torque and precision, while noting that the watch can continue running for roughly 160 hours. The brand separately states 160 ± 10 hours of autonomy. These figures describe different things: the indicated 120-hour interval is not a claim that the watch stops at 120 hours, nor does the longer running time mean the watch maintains the same timekeeping performance throughout.

Automatique Lune versus Octa Lune
The main distinction is the location of the time display. Monochrome reports that F.P. Journe introduced the Octa automatic movement in 2001 and the Octa Lune moon-phase model in 2003. The Automatique Lune followed in 2007, moving hours and minutes to the center for a more conventional dial layout; the current design is a 2019 refresh.

Monochrome also records an early brass-movement era for the Octa and a move to gold movement components in 2004. The manufacturer’s description of the Octa concept emphasizes fitting multiple complications into the same movement dimensions while retaining a common case size; that design aim should not be read as a guarantee that all Octa watches share identical external dimensions. Fratello notes that the date and moon phase can be adjusted through the crown, without dedicated pushers. Monochrome describes a three-position crown and gives directions for date, moon and time setting. Because operating directions can depend on the specific reference, consult the instructions for the watch in hand rather than applying a generic crown-setting sequence.

Configurations, price and availability
The manufacturer currently lists boutique-exclusive availability through F.P. Journe boutiques and Espaces. That statement does not establish live stock, a waiting list or a current retail price. The current model page lists platinum and 18K 6N gold and 40 mm or 42 mm case diameters; the independent reviews also discuss platinum and red-gold examples and bracelet or leather-strap configurations. Confirm the exact material, dial, size and strap or bracelet options for the reference offered to you.
Published prices in the reviews are historical, not 2026 quotations. Monochrome listed CHF 48,100 for a 42 mm platinum model in 2022. Fratello listed EUR 50,100 for a platinum model and EUR 46,000 for a red-gold version in 2021.
