The case is tantalum, measuring 39 mm across and 8.3 mm high. The manufacturer characterizes tantalum as a dark grey metal with blue overtones and says it is rarely used in watchmaking because it is difficult to work. That material choice gives the watch a more individual identity than a conventional steel case, while the restrained dimensions and thin profile keep the overall design relatively discreet.
How is the Calibre 1304 built?
The manually wound Calibre 1304 is made in 18K rose gold, including its bridges and baseplate. It has 22 jewels and two mainspring barrels operating in parallel. F.P. Journe says the twin-barrel arrangement is intended to provide stable force through most of the watch’s stated running time.

The manufacturer specifies a frequency of 21,600 vibrations per hour, or 3 Hz, and a power reserve of 56 ± 2 hours. The movement measures 30.40 mm in diameter and 4 mm high. These figures describe the maker’s specifications; they are not independent chronometry test results.
What does it wear and read like on paper?
The 39 mm diameter and 8.3 mm overall height provide a useful sense of scale, but those dimensions alone cannot establish how the watch will sit on a particular wrist. The dial layout is intentionally sparse: central hours and minutes carry the primary time display, while a small-seconds register sits at 7:30. The contrast of ivory-color hands against chrome blue is the main visual aid described by the manufacturer; legibility in different lighting or at different angles is not established by the published specifications.

What is the F.P. Journe Chronomètre Bleu price?

What should you check before buying one pre-owned?
Because a dependable current sales range is not established, assess the particular watch and its documentation rather than treating one estimate or listing as representative. Ask for clear photos and records, and distinguish a seller’s asking price from a documented completed transaction.
- Condition: Review the case, dial, hands and movement documentation, and ask whether any parts have been replaced or refinished.
- Provenance and papers: Confirm the watch’s history and inspect any guarantee papers for consistency with the watch.
- Box and accessories: Establish exactly what is included; a box or guarantee mentioned in one auction listing does not mean every example includes them.
- Service history: Request dated service documentation and clarify what work was performed.
- Price basis: Compare like-for-like examples by condition and included materials, and identify whether each figure is an estimate, asking price or realized sale.
Is the Chronomètre Bleu worth considering?
It makes the strongest case for a buyer drawn to the specific combination of a tantalum case, chrome-blue dial and rose-gold manual movement. The official specifications are distinctive without requiring an elaborate dial or complication.
