The pairing comes from a speculative Time+Tide feature by D.C. Hannay, published August 5, 2022, which imagined celebrity and watch-brand matches its writers would like to see.
Why Hannay paired McConaughey with DOXA
Hannay’s central connection is the 2005 film Sahara: his article says McConaughey wore a DOXA 600T Professional in the movie. That is the feature’s claim; the available sources do not independently verify the screen watch.
The proposed fit also draws on DOXA’s association with dive watches and McConaughey’s outdoors persona. That is Hannay’s editorial judgment, not evidence of a personal relationship, endorsement, or commercial arrangement between the actor and the brand.
What the DOXA catalog shows today
DOXA’s official US catalog lists the SUB 600T family. This establishes a current catalog connection to the 600T name, but it does not establish that the specific 600T Professional cited in the film article is currently sold or in stock. Check the exact model, dial, seller, and availability before treating a listing as the same watch.

Where the story stands
A Time+Tide follow-up published August 3, 2023 revisited the McConaughey–DOXA idea as a fantasy pairing that had not happened at that time. Neither that follow-up nor Hannay’s original feature is an announcement from DOXA or McConaughey.

Hannay’s August 5, 2022 Time+Tide article belongs to a series imagining ambassador matchups; its premise was that the proposed celebrity should not already be a watch-brand ambassador. Hannay closes with, “It’d be a lot cooler if you did.” That line is his playful pitch—not a quote from McConaughey or a response from DOXA.
