The Favre-Leuba Raider Harpoon 42, reference 00.10131.08.52.20, pairs an unconventional rotating-hour display with a substantial steel case. A 2020 aBlogtoWatch review reports dimensions of 42 mm wide, 15 mm thick and 50 mm lug-to-lug, plus 300 m stated water resistance. That combination makes wrist fit, comfort with the display and the condition of the crown and seals more important than the headline water-resistance number alone.
What the Raider Harpoon 42 is
This is the 42 mm Raider Harpoon reviewed by Ariel Adams for aBlogtoWatch on September 27, 2020, identified as reference 00.10131.08.52.20. It is not the earlier 46 mm Raider Harpoon or the later 37 mm Harpoon Revival. The review describes a steel case with polished and brushed surfaces, an anti-reflective-coated sapphire crystal and a steel bracelet. These are specifications and observations reported by that review, not independent measurements for this article. aBlogtoWatch review

How the rotating hour display works
Instead of a conventional central hour hand, the watch uses a minute hand in combination with a rotating hour chapter ring. The ring indicates the hour as it moves through the dial, while a small central disc displays running seconds. This arrangement gives the face a distinctive reading pattern; buyers accustomed to a separate hour hand should check that they find the ring easy to read at a glance. The review describes the layout but does not establish comparative legibility in different lighting or conditions.
Will its size fit your wrist?
The review reports a 42 mm case width, 15 mm thickness and 50 mm lug-to-lug length. Width alone therefore understates how much watch sits on the wrist: the thickness and lug span are also relevant, particularly for smaller wrists, close-fitting cuffs or anyone who prefers a low-profile diver. There is no universal wrist-size cutoff; try the exact reference on if possible and assess how the case sits, not just how wide it looks from above.

Movement, reserve and bracelet
The 2020 aBlogtoWatch review identifies the movement as Favre-Leuba caliber FL301, based on the Sellita SW200 with a proprietary module, and reports an approximately 42-hour power reserve. The review describes a steel bracelet with a fold-over safety clasp, hidden diver’s extension and micro-adjustment. Those features offer ways to secure and adjust the bracelet, but exact fit and adjustment range for an individual wrist are not stated in the cited review.
Can you dive with the Raider Harpoon?
The review reports 300 m water resistance, but that rating is not a promise that any individual watch is safe to dive with today. Favre-Leuba’s manual explains that depth ratings represent tested pressure equivalencies, not literal safe dive depths, and says the tests follow ISO 22810. Water resistance can be affected by aging seals or impacts to the crown; a used watch’s current condition matters. Have its water resistance checked when appropriate, especially after the watch has been opened or serviced, and do not assume a rating proves present-day seal integrity. Crown precautions
- After winding or setting the time, return the crown to its normal position and lock it.
- Protect the crown from impacts, which can affect water resistance.
- Never operate the crown underwater. Favre-Leuba’s manual states, “Never use the crown or buttons under water.”
Service and care
Favre-Leuba says service needs depend on the model, climate and treatment. Its manual generally advises careful servicing every four or five years at an official service center; this is manufacturer guidance, not a fixed deadline that applies identically to every watch. The manual also recommends checking water resistance when appropriate. Ask for an assessment of the specific watch’s condition rather than relying on its original specification.
Price, availability and model confusion
The review video’s description listed $3,950 USD when it was published in 2020. That is a historical price, not a current quote. Current pricing, stock and availability for reference 00.10131.08.52.20 are not established here. Favre-Leuba’s current site surfaces 37 mm Harpoon Revival models, which are distinct from this 42 mm Raider Harpoon; their specifications or prices should not be treated as applying to this reference. The dimensions and movement details above identify what to check against, but they do not establish the condition or value of a particular listing.
