The Favre-Leuba Raider Harpoon is a serious-looking dive watch with a display that takes a moment to learn: one hand reads both the minutes and the hour, while a central disc indicates seconds. Its technical appeal is balanced by a large case—and published specifications differ between versions. Check the exact reference and configuration before judging fit or water resistance.
How do you read the Raider Harpoon?
There is no conventional central hour hand. Instead, the minute hand does double duty: read its position against the minute scale on the dial, then read the same hand against the rotating hour indicator around the dial edge. The central disc carries the seconds pointer and also acts as a function control.
In practice, read the hand against both scales rather than trying to find a separate hour hand. The layout is distinctive, but it asks for more interpretation than a standard three-hand watch. If you are considering one, try reading it at a glance in ordinary lighting and at the angles you usually check a watch. Favre-Leuba describes the display in its technical article; the user manual labels the hour indicator, minute hand, central second pointer and rotating bezel.
Specifications depend on the version
Published Raider Harpoon specifications do not resolve into one uniform case and depth rating. Favre-Leuba’s technical article describes a 42 mm model rated to 300 m, while Ashford’s listing for reference 001010108.13.31 gives a 46 mm case and 500 m rating. Hodinkee and Europa Star also describe a 46 mm/500 m version. The available material does not establish the full history of the variants, so these figures should not be combined or assumed to apply to every Raider Harpoon.

| Source and configuration | Case diameter | Published water resistance |
|---|---|---|
| Favre-Leuba technical article, Raider Harpoon configuration | 42 mm | 300 m |
| Ashford listing, reference 001010108.13.31 | 46 mm | 500 m |
| Hodinkee and Europa Star coverage, versions described | 46 mm | 500 m |
Before buying, verify the reference, case size, finish and stated rating on the watch and its documentation. A meter rating reflects test pressure; it does not mean the watch is safe to use at that actual underwater depth. Favre-Leuba explains this distinction in the manual.
Case size and dive-watch hardware
At 42 mm, the configuration described by Favre-Leuba is already substantial for a diver; the 46 mm configuration will occupy more wrist space. Diameter alone does not tell the whole wearability story, and the cited sources do not provide a consistent set of thickness, lug-to-lug or lug-width measurements for comparison. Try the specific watch on if fit is a deciding factor.

- NH35A Japanese Automatic movement, 24 jewel; Assembled in Malaysia; Watch weight: 155 grams

Favre-Leuba’s technical article lists a unidirectional bezel, screw-in crown, sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating and helium valve, alongside the 42 mm/300 m configuration. The 46 mm/500 m variant is covered by Ashford, Hodinkee and Europa Star. Confirm hardware and rating against the exact reference rather than assuming every specification applies across the range.
Movement, winding and routine care
Favre-Leuba identifies the Raider Harpoon’s FL301 automatic movement as based on the Sellita SW200. The manual states that a fully wound watch has at least 38 hours of power reserve. This is a manufacturer specification, not an independent test result.

If the watch is new to your wrist or has not been worn for a long period, Favre-Leuba says manual winding is necessary. The manual’s procedure is to unscrew the crown, wind the watch, and screw the crown securely back into place. Follow the instructions for the specific watch and ensure the crown is secured before exposing it to water.
Favre-Leuba recommends checking water resistance annually and after unusual stress, and says servicing every four or five years is generally advisable at an official service center. Those are manufacturer recommendations, not a guarantee that every watch will need service on precisely that schedule. For a used example, ask for its service history and documentation of a recent water-resistance test.

Buying a Raider Harpoon
- Identify the exact watch: Match the reference and its documents to the case size, finish and water-resistance rating being offered.
- Assess the display in person: Check that the dual-scale reading feels clear to you, rather than assuming the unusual arrangement will be intuitive.
- Check condition and care: Request service records and a recent water-resistance test for a pre-owned watch. A listing alone does not establish its condition.
- Verify seller terms: Ashford lists reference 001010108.13.31, but a product page by itself does not establish current inventory, authorized-dealer status or current market value.
The original Raider Harpoon manual reviewed here does not state lug width, so do not infer strap compatibility from another watch carrying the Harpoon name.

The Harpoon Revival announced in 2026 is a separate model based on the 1966 Harpoon design, not a new specification of the Raider Harpoon reviewed here. Favre-Leuba’s April 14, 2026 announcement gives the Revival a 36.8 mm case, 50 m water resistance, FLD04 caliber based on the La Joux-Perret G100, 68-hour reserve and CHF 1,800 retail price at announcement. Those details do not apply to the Raider Harpoon. Favre-Leuba’s collection page lists the Revival separately.
