The Fears x Christopher Ward Alliance 01 is a limited-edition jumping-hour watch created for the Alliance of British Watch and Clock Makers. Its 40.5 mm cushion-shaped steel case and burgundy dial frame a JJ01 automatic movement; the original 50-piece offer was reserved for Alliance Club members. Fears’ product page currently marks it sold out and offers a waitlist, so it does not indicate that a new watch is available to buy.
What is the Alliance 01?
The Alliance 01 is a three-party collaboration between Fears, Christopher Ward and the Alliance of British Watch and Clock Makers. Launch coverage described it as the Alliance’s first collaboration watch. The Alliance is a trade body; a 2020 Guild announcement said it was formed by independent watchmaker Roger W. Smith OBE and Christopher Ward founder Mike France. Fears’ product page and launch coverage describe the watch and its collaboration.
Its defining complication is a jumping hour: the hour appears in a dial window, while a single minute hand indicates the minutes. That separates it from a conventional watch with an hour hand sweeping around the dial. The minute hand is shaped in Fears’ style and finished with polished and frosted surfaces.

Fears-inspired cushion case
The 40.5 mm case is cushion-shaped and made from 316L stainless steel. Fears says its curved surfaces take inspiration from a Fears gentleman’s cushion-case watch first made in 1924. The case is therefore a design reference to the brand’s history, rather than a claim that the Alliance 01 reproduces the earlier watch.

Burgundy dial and leather strap
The dial is burgundy red, matched to a burgundy leather strap bespoke-tanned by Bristol-based Thomas Ware & Sons and lined with blue Alcantara. The watch is specified to fit 20 mm straps, which gives owners a compatible width to look for; it is not a fit test or endorsement of any particular aftermarket strap.
How the JJ01 movement works
The Alliance 01 uses the Swiss-made automatic JJ01. Fears describes it as powered by a Sellita SW200 and fitted with a module developed in-house by Christopher Ward’s Johannes Jahnke, whom the product page identifies as the company’s former master watchmaker. The module enables the jumping-hour display.

Fears says the movement was regulated to Chronometer grade. That is the wording of the product page; it should not be read as evidence of an independent chronometer certification.
Original edition and sale terms
Fears stated that the edition was limited to 50 individually numbered pieces, from 01 to 50. The lugs carry engraved marks for the Alliance, Fears and Christopher Ward. These were the original terms published for the collaboration, not an indication of current stock or eligibility.

The price, eligibility, shipping date and donation statement describe the original offer as recorded on Fears’ product page, not present-day terms. The stated donation was of profits from the sale, not a claim that the entire purchase price was donated.

Fears currently marks the watch sold out and offers an email waitlist on its official product page. The page does not establish that joining the list secures a watch or that new production is planned. Resale supply and current secondary-market prices have not been verified, so the original £3,950 price should not be treated as a current asking price.
