There is no single “perfect” Rolex Datejust: the right choice depends on how the size, material, bezel, dial and bracelet look and feel on your wrist. Narrow the range in that order, then check the exact reference and try it on before buying.
Start with the size you want to try
Rolex’s current Datejust catalog groups watches in 31 mm, 36 mm and 41 mm sizes. Those are catalog options, not a fit verdict: wrist proportions and personal preference cannot be settled by the number or a product photograph alone. If you are unsure, compare sizes in person before choosing a finish.
Rolex’s catalog displayed 56 Datejust results when accessed in 2026. That is a changeable catalog snapshot, not a count of watches available to buy or a market statistic. Use the current Datejust catalog to see the options listed now.
Choose the look: material, bezel and dial
Once you have a size range in mind, compare the finish choices. Rolex’s catalog includes Oystersteel, Oystersteel combined with gold, and precious-metal options. The cited examples include Oystersteel and White Rolesor, Rolex’s combination of Oystersteel and white gold. Treat material primarily as a visual and budget choice: the cited sources do not establish a durability or resale-value ranking between configurations.
Bezel
Current Datejust bezel choices include smooth, domed, fluted and gem-set styles. The cited 36 mm reference 126200 has a domed bezel; the cited White Rolesor examples, references 126234 and 126334, have fluted bezels. These are reference-specific details, not rules for every Datejust of the same size. Check the exact model page when comparing.
Dial
Dial colors and details vary by reference. Do not assume a Datejust 36 or Datejust 41 comes in one standard dial: use the official page for the complete reference you are considering, and compare the actual dial in person if possible.

Compare Oyster and Jubilee bracelets on your wrist
Rolex lists Oyster and Jubilee bracelets for Datejust 36 and 41. Try both rather than deciding from photographs: how a bracelet looks and feels is personal. Rolex says the Jubilee was designed for the Datejust’s 1945 launch, describing it as a “supple and comfortable five-piece link metal bracelet.” That is the manufacturer’s description, not an independent comfort assessment.
Rolex says Oysterclasp bracelets have an Easylink extension of approximately 5 mm. Confirm the clasp and bracelet configuration on the exact reference, since a size name alone does not identify every finish detail. Rolex’s account of the Jubilee and bracelet features appears in its Datejust overview.

Use specifications to confirm the exact reference
In the cited official examples, Datejust 36 references 126200 and 126234, and Datejust 41 reference 126334, use calibre 3235, have approximately 70 hours of power reserve and are rated to 100 m / 330 ft water resistance. These specifications apply to those cited examples; verify them on the official page for the complete reference you intend to buy.
For a reference-specific check, Rolex’s pages include the Datejust 36 reference 126200, the Datejust 36 reference 126234 and the Datejust 41 reference 126334. Confirm that the reference, material, bezel, dial and bracelet shown on the page match the watch you are considering; variants can differ within a size family.

Verify the seller before you buy
Rolex states: “Only official Rolex retailers are allowed to sell and maintain a Rolex watch.” Verify a retailer’s official status with Rolex and confirm the exact reference before purchase. The catalog and product pages do not establish an individual retailer’s stock, and they do not verify the legitimacy of third-party sellers.
