Finding the Right Samsung Phone for Hearing Aid Compatibility

For U.S. buyers, the Galaxy S26 family is Samsung’s strongest current starting point for hearing-aid compatibility, but HAC, ASHA, Bluetooth LE Audio, and hearing-aid app support are separate checks. Learn what M3 and T3 mean, how direct streaming works, and how to verify the exact phone-and-hearing-aid combination.

Finding the right Samsung phone for hearing aid compatibility starts with the U.S. Galaxy S26 family: Samsung lists the Galaxy S26, S26+, and S26 Ultra as HAC-compliant and certified for ASHA and Bluetooth LE Audio. However, direct streaming is not universal; the exact hearing-aid model, phone variant, software, carrier, and intended function must also match.

HAC, ASHA, Bluetooth LE Audio, telecoil use, manufacturer apps, and hands-free calls describe different compatibility layers. A phone can work for conventional hearing-aid telephone use without streaming music directly, so the correct buying process checks the phone and hearing aid together.

Key takeaways

  • Samsung’s U.S. accessibility database lists the Galaxy S26, S26+, and S26 Ultra as HAC-compliant under the newer reporting framework and as certified for ASHA and Bluetooth LE Audio.
  • HAC compatibility concerns acoustic or telecoil use during telephone calls; HAC certification alone does not prove direct Bluetooth streaming to every hearing aid.
  • ASHA and Bluetooth LE Audio are separate Android streaming paths, and the hearing aid must support the relevant protocol.
  • Traditional hearing-aid compatibility ratings use M3 and T3 minimums for acoustic and inductive coupling, respectively, according to the Federal Communications Commission in 2012.
  • The hearing-aid manufacturer, exact hearing-aid model, firmware, phone variant, carrier status, and software version all affect whether pairing and streaming will work.

Which Samsung Galaxy phones are hearing-aid compatible?

Samsung’s current U.S. accessibility database lists the Galaxy S26 family—the Galaxy S26, Galaxy S26+, and Galaxy S26 Ultra—as relevant for hearing-aid compatibility, including HAC compliance, ASHA certification, and Bluetooth LE Audio certification. The Galaxy S26 is therefore the best general starting point for a U.S. buyer, while the S26+ and S26 Ultra offer larger-screen or premium-feature alternatives without automatically providing better hearing-aid performance. See Samsung’s U.S. mobile accessibility database for the exact model and certification entries.

That recommendation is a starting point, not a universal guarantee. A Samsung phone may be suitable for conventional hearing-aid telephone use but fail to stream media directly to a particular hearing aid. Before buying, match the exact phone model and U.S. variant with the exact hearing-aid family, firmware, supported protocol, carrier configuration, and intended use.

Current Samsung shortlist

Samsung phone What Samsung’s U.S. database lists Best reason to choose it Important limitation
Galaxy S26 HAC-compliant under the newer framework; ASHA-certified; Bluetooth LE Audio-certified Best general starting point for hearing-aid compatibility and direct-streaming research Still requires verification with the specific hearing-aid model and phone variant
Galaxy S26+ HAC-compliant under the newer framework; ASHA-certified; Bluetooth LE Audio-certified Larger screen and the same current-family certification coverage The larger form factor does not itself improve hearing-aid radio or streaming compatibility
Galaxy S26 Ultra HAC-compliant under the newer framework; ASHA-certified; Bluetooth LE Audio-certified Premium Galaxy feature set for buyers who specifically want the Ultra A premium price does not establish better hearing-aid performance
Older Galaxy S, Z, XCover, or A models Many models appear in Samsung’s database, but entries and supported features vary Potentially lower price or better availability Check the exact U.S. model number, carrier or unlocked status, software, and hearing-aid protocol before purchase

Samsung’s official Galaxy S26 and S26+ product page confirms the current family product information, but product-page availability is not a substitute for checking the accessibility database and the hearing-aid manufacturer’s compatibility information.

What does hearing-aid compatibility mean on a Samsung phone?

“Hearing-aid compatible” can describe several different functions: making telephone calls through acoustic coupling, using a telecoil, streaming music or video directly to the hearing aids, controlling the hearing aids through an app, or using the hearing-aid microphones for hands-free calls. These functions use different technologies and should be checked separately.

The safest interpretation is: choose a Samsung phone confirmed by Samsung, then verify the exact hearing-aid pairing with the hearing-aid manufacturer or an audiologist. Samsung itself says, Please check with your respective audiologist or hearing aid manufacturer to find the best phone to work with your hearing aid. That advice appears in Samsung’s current U.S. mobile accessibility documentation.

What do M3 and T3 mean on a phone?

M3 and T3 are traditional hearing-aid compatibility thresholds for different coupling methods. M ratings describe acoustic coupling, while T ratings describe inductive coupling through a hearing aid’s telecoil.

Rating Coupling method What it addresses Traditional minimum
M Acoustic coupling Use of the phone’s sound output with hearing aids in microphone mode M3
T Inductive or telecoil coupling Use of a hearing aid’s telecoil to receive the phone signal T3

According to the Federal Communications Commission’s 2012 hearing-aid-compatibility guidance, a handset is considered compatible for acoustic coupling at a minimum of M3 and for inductive coupling at a minimum of T3. Under the traditional framework, phones and hearing aids were described using M1–M4 and T1–T4 scales, with higher numbers indicating better performance.

Why newer Samsung phones may not show M4 or T4

Samsung explains that devices tested to ANSI C63.19-2011 receive M1–M4 and T1–T4 classifications. Devices launched in 2024 and later and tested to ANSI C63.19-2019 are instead reported as HAC-compliant or not, with conversational-gain information potentially supplied on the box. A newer “HAC-compliant” result should not be treated as automatically equivalent to a specific M4 or T4 score. Samsung’s accessibility documentation describes the distinction.

Does HAC mean a Samsung phone will stream directly to hearing aids?

No. HAC supports a traditional phone-and-hearing-aid coupling question; HAC certification does not prove that a phone supports every hearing-aid manufacturer’s direct-streaming protocol or mobile app.

Direct streaming is a separate compatibility layer. Android’s ASHA system streams hearing-aid audio over Bluetooth Low Energy, but the hearing aid must implement the ASHA GATT service before an Android device can recognize and stream to it. The Android Open Source Project ASHA documentation states, “A peripheral must implement the Audio Streaming for Hearing Aid (ASHA) GATT server service.”

Bluetooth LE Audio is another path. Android’s Bluetooth LE Audio documentation describes Hearing Aid Profile support and notes that compatible hearing aids can use their microphones for calls. A phone having ordinary Bluetooth does not mean that the phone and hearing aid support ASHA or Bluetooth LE Audio together.

Technology Primary use What must be supported What it does not prove
HAC acoustic coupling Telephone use through the hearing aid’s microphones Compatible phone performance and compatible hearing-aid microphone use Direct media streaming or app support
HAC telecoil coupling Telephone use through the hearing aid’s telecoil Phone inductive performance and a hearing aid with a usable telecoil Bluetooth streaming
ASHA Bluetooth Low Energy audio streaming to supported hearing aids Phone support and a hearing aid implementing the ASHA GATT service Compatibility with hearing aids using another protocol
Bluetooth LE Audio/Hearing Aid Profile Newer Bluetooth Low Energy audio features, potentially including calls through compatible hearing-aid microphones Compatible phone software and hardware plus a compatible hearing aid and firmware Compatibility with every Bluetooth hearing aid
Manufacturer app Remote control, adjustments, updates, or manufacturer-specific features The hearing-aid manufacturer’s supported phone, app, and software combination That another Samsung model or another manufacturer’s app will work identically

How should you choose between the Galaxy S26, S26+, and S26 Ultra?

Choose among the current Galaxy S26 models based on screen size, handling, battery preferences, and desired phone features after confirming that the intended hearing-aid protocol is supported. Samsung’s database lists all three models in the relevant current certification tables, so the larger screen or Ultra feature set should not be presented as evidence of better hearing-aid performance.

  • Choose the Galaxy S26 if you want the most straightforward current Samsung starting point and do not need the larger models’ physical design.
  • Choose the Galaxy S26+ if a larger display makes accessibility settings, captions, menus, or hearing-aid controls easier to use.
  • Choose the Galaxy S26 Ultra if you want its broader premium feature set and accept that the premium model has not been shown by the supplied research to stream better to hearing aids.
  • Consider an older Galaxy only after checking its exact listing and compatibility details. A lower purchase price can be outweighed by missing protocol support, outdated software, or an incompatible carrier variant.

If you are shopping for a Samsung Galaxy S26 unlocked smartphone, treat the unlocked status as only one part of the check. Confirm the U.S. model identifier, supported carrier bands and services, current software, return policy, and the hearing-aid manufacturer’s requirements before committing to the purchase. Availability, listing details, and pricing can change.

Will my hearing aids work with an unlocked Samsung phone?

An unlocked Samsung phone can work with compatible hearing aids, but unlocked status alone does not guarantee pairing, streaming, or full call functionality. The buyer must verify the exact unlocked model, software version, hearing-aid model, supported ASHA or Bluetooth LE Audio path, and carrier behavior.

Carrier and unlocked variants can differ in model identifiers, software timing, supported network features, and availability. Samsung’s accessibility database should be checked for the exact U.S. model rather than for the Galaxy family name alone. A hearing-aid manufacturer’s compatibility list should then confirm whether the specific hearing-aid family supports that phone and protocol.

What should you check before buying?

  1. Identify the hearing aid precisely. Record the manufacturer, product family, exact model, firmware, and whether the device has a telecoil. “Bluetooth hearing aids” is not precise enough because Bluetooth implementations differ.
  2. Define the intended use. Decide whether the priority is ordinary phone calls, telecoil use, direct music and video streaming, remote control through an app, or two-way hands-free calls.
  3. Check Samsung’s exact entry. Search the Samsung U.S. mobile accessibility database for the precise phone and variant. Note whether the entry refers to HAC compliance, ASHA, Bluetooth LE Audio, or another feature.
  4. Check the hearing-aid manufacturer’s list. Manufacturer documentation takes priority over generic retailer descriptions. For example, Signia’s Android compatibility resource provides manufacturer-specific information; Phonak guidance likewise warns that hardware and software combinations vary.
  5. Match the protocol. Confirm whether both sides support ASHA or Bluetooth LE Audio/Hearing Aid Profile. Do not infer support from the word “Bluetooth” alone.
  6. Confirm software and carrier details. Record the phone’s software version, unlocked or carrier status, U.S. model number, and the carrier you intend to use.
  7. Test before the return period ends. Pair the exact phone and hearing aids, make and receive calls, test media streaming, try the manufacturer app, and check hands-free microphone behavior if those functions matter.
  8. Ask an audiologist or hearing-care provider when necessary. An audiologist can help distinguish a phone problem from a hearing-aid fitting, firmware, or configuration problem. This article does not provide medical advice or evaluate hearing-loss treatment.

What should you do if a Samsung phone will not connect to hearing aids?

Start by identifying which function failed: basic Bluetooth pairing, the manufacturer’s app, ASHA media streaming, Bluetooth LE Audio, telecoil calling, or hands-free calls. Different failures point to different compatibility layers, so repeatedly toggling Bluetooth cannot fix a protocol mismatch.

Observed problem Most useful check Likely explanation
Phone calls are noisy or interfere with the hearing aids Check the phone’s HAC information and test acoustic versus telecoil use HAC coupling, telecoil settings, distance, or interference—not necessarily a direct-streaming problem
Hearing aids pair but music does not stream Confirm ASHA or Bluetooth LE Audio support on both devices Basic Bluetooth pairing does not establish a supported hearing-aid audio path
The hearing-aid app cannot find the aids Check the manufacturer’s compatibility list, app version, permissions, and firmware The app may support a different Samsung model, operating-system version, or hearing-aid family
Calls stream one way but hands-free calls fail Confirm Hearing Aid Profile, microphone support, and the manufacturer’s call guidance Two-way call support has different requirements from receiving streamed audio
An older Galaxy works inconsistently Record the exact model, carrier status, and software version and compare them with both manufacturers’ lists Older hardware, software, or variant-specific support may differ from current-family certification

Phonak’s compatibility guidance cautions that hardware and software combinations vary and recommends testing before making a purchase decision. If a current Samsung phone and the hearing aids are both listed as compatible but a function still fails, update supported software and hearing-aid firmware according to the manufacturers’ instructions, then ask the hearing-care provider to test the exact combination.

Is the Galaxy S26 the best Samsung phone for hearing aids?

For a U.S. buyer, the Galaxy S26 is the most defensible general recommendation because Samsung’s current database lists it with HAC compliance, ASHA certification, and Bluetooth LE Audio certification. The Galaxy S26+ and S26 Ultra are equally reasonable for buyers who prefer their size or feature sets, but neither is established by the supplied evidence as better for hearing-aid performance.

The deciding question is not simply “Which Samsung phone has Bluetooth?” The deciding question is whether the exact Samsung variant and software support the exact hearing-aid model and the specific function you need. Verify both manufacturers’ compatibility information and test the combination before the return period expires.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best Samsung phone for hearing aids?

The Galaxy S26 is the best general starting point for a U.S. buyer because Samsung’s current accessibility database lists the Galaxy S26, S26+, and S26 Ultra as HAC-compliant and certified for ASHA and Bluetooth LE Audio. The best choice still depends on the exact hearing-aid model and intended function.

Can I use Bluetooth hearing aids with a Samsung Galaxy?

Yes, a Samsung Galaxy can stream directly to compatible Bluetooth hearing aids through ASHA or Bluetooth LE Audio/Hearing Aid Profile. Ordinary Bluetooth support and HAC compliance do not prove that a specific hearing aid will stream, so check both manufacturers’ compatibility lists.

What do M3 and T3 mean on a phone?

M3 is the traditional minimum rating for acoustic coupling, and T3 is the traditional minimum rating for inductive or telecoil coupling. Newer phones tested under ANSI C63.19-2019 may instead be reported as HAC-compliant rather than receiving an M or T level.

Will my hearing aids work with an unlocked Samsung phone?

An unlocked Samsung phone may work with compatible hearing aids, but unlocked status alone is not a guarantee. Verify the exact U.S. model, software version, carrier support, hearing-aid model, and ASHA or Bluetooth LE Audio requirements.

The Bottom Line

Bottom line: Start with the U.S. Galaxy S26, S26+, or S26 Ultra because Samsung lists the current family for HAC, ASHA, and Bluetooth LE Audio. Then verify the exact hearing-aid model, protocol, phone variant, carrier, software, and intended function. HAC does not guarantee direct Bluetooth streaming, and no Samsung phone should be treated as universally compatible with every hearing aid.
