Citizen announced the Series 8 890 Mechanical in March 2024, positioning it as the sportiest model in the collection. The blue-dial NB6060-58L is the original reference: a 42.6 mm automatic watch with a bidirectional inner bezel and an approximately 42-hour power reserve. “New” describes its 2024 launch, not a 2026 release.
What is the Citizen Series 8 890 Mechanical?
The 890 is a sporty mechanical watch in Citizen’s Series 8 range. Citizen’s Japan announcement scheduled the NB6060-58L for release on March 21, 2024, at a listed price of ¥198,000 including tax. Design: patterned dial, inner bezel and angular case
The blue NB6060-58L combines a patterned dial with a bidirectional inner bezel, controlled by a crown at the 2 o’clock position. Citizen says the dial develops the Series 8 checkerboard motif and evokes Tokyo’s night skyline. Its launch material also describes a multi-part case with sharp edges and contrasting hairline-brushed and polished surfaces; those are the manufacturer’s design explanations, not independent findings from hands-on inspection. Is the Series 8 890 a dive watch?
It has a high water-resistance rating, but the available Citizen product information does not establish a professional-diving certification. Citizen’s US page for the NB6060-07A lists 200 m (20 bar, 666 ft) water resistance and identifies swimming, showering and snorkeling as suitable activities. A water-resistance figure alone does not certify a watch for professional diving or substitute for a diver’s-watch standard. How accurate is Caliber 9051?
For the original NB6060-58L, Citizen specifies an average daily accuracy range of -10 to +20 seconds per day and approximately 42 hours of running time when fully wound. The range is a manufacturer specification, not an independently measured result or a promise of an individual watch’s daily performance. The NB6060-07A’s dimensions, resistance ratings and page price are specific to that US-listed reference. Do not assume its strap, water resistance, magnetic resistance or current price applies to every 890. The gold/grey reference’s US$1,695 figure was projected at launch, while the US page’s $1,295 figure was the price shown when crawled; neither should be treated as a current quote. The official specifications describe the watch and its listed capabilities; they do not establish real-world wrist comfort, measured accuracy, finishing quality from handling, or performance in water. For a purchase, confirm the exact reference, regional version, strap or bracelet, seller, price and availability rather than relying on the family name alone.
