The Depancel Serie-R 80s Edition is an automatic, square-cased watch that turns 1980s performance-car dashboard cues into an orange-accented analog display. Launched in September 2023, it pairs a Miyota 9110 movement with day, date, 24-hour and power-reserve indications. Depancel’s current product page lists it at €795 including taxes, but marks it sold out.
What is the Depancel Serie-R 80s Edition?
It is a stainless-steel automatic watch in Depancel’s square-cased Serie-R line. The edition’s visual reference is 1980s performance-car design, particularly the angular styling associated with the Ferrari Testarossa. Depancel uses orange accents, LED-style numerals, applied square indices and horizontal dial grooves to evoke a dashboard rather than a literal digital display. The watch has conventional analog hands and mechanical indications, not an electronic LED screen.
The design also sits within a longer automotive story: Monochrome says the original Serie-R drew inspiration from the radiator grille of the Delage D8-120. The 80s edition shifts that lineage toward the angular forms and turbo-era car styling of the following decade. How the dial and case are laid out
The orange-toned dial combines hours, minutes and seconds with calendar and auxiliary displays. Its LED-style numerals and square indices reinforce the dashboard theme, while a brushed anthracite surround frames the face. The caseback is transparent, giving a view of the movement; the case itself combines brushed and polished stainless-steel surfaces.

These cues make the watch deliberately distinctive rather than a restrained dress piece. The orange is an accent within a busy instrument-like layout, and the additional indications give the dial more to take in than a simple three-hand watch.
What movement and functions does it have?
A Miyota 9110 automatic movement powers the watch. The display includes hours, minutes, seconds, day, date, 24-hour AM/PM and a power-reserve indication. Depancel lists a 40-hour power reserve. Monochrome’s launch report specifies 26 jewels and a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour.

Because it is automatic, the watch is mechanical rather than battery-powered or digital. Its sub-displays are functional indications, not decorative dashboard graphics.

The case-width figures conflict: Depancel’s current listing says 43 × 36 mm, while Monochrome gave 42 × 36 mm in its 26 September 2023 launch report. The difference is not explained in the sources. The dimensions in the current listing are the most relevant figures for a prospective buyer checking the product page; the older measurement is included here for context.

A 50 mm lug-to-lug measurement is useful when considering how the square case may span the wrist, but wrist shape and strap fit also affect how a watch wears. The listed 50 m / 5 ATM water resistance is a specification, not a claim that the watch is suited to every water activity.
What straps are included?
Depancel lists both a metal bracelet and a black leather strap with orange stitching in the box. Monochrome reports quick-release spring bars on both straps and gives the leather strap width as 22 mm. Having both options lets the owner switch between a more integrated steel look and a darker strap that picks up the dial’s orange accents.

Price, availability and launch timing
The watch launched in September 2023, when Monochrome reported that preorders opened on 26 September. At that time the stated price was €795 including taxes or US$795 before tax, with deliveries expected at the end of November 2023. Monochrome described it as not limited at launch; that does not establish current production or restock status.
Depancel’s current EU product listing shows €795 including taxes and the status “Sold out.” It also states that the watch is assembled in France and carries a five-year warranty from shipment. The page describes free shipping for watches and a 30-day withdrawal period for refund or exchange subject to return conditions. It says taxes and duties are included for EU, UK and Switzerland shipments; buyers elsewhere are responsible for applicable local taxes and duties. These are the terms shown on the listing and can change.
