Which Depancel Série-R Tangerine is this?
This is the original blue-and-orange Série-R Tangerine Chronograph Automatic announced in June 2024. Monochrome called it the first square-shaped Série-R with an automatic chronograph; Fratello described it as the first mechanical version of the Série-R Chronograph. It is distinct from the later black-dial Série-R01 Black Tangerine and the 2026 Série-R Ice Blue. Monochrome’s 2024 introduction and Fratello’s hands-on review cover the original release.
The square case and racing colors give the watch a strong automotive character. Monochrome reports that Depancel’s name combines Delage, Panhard and Facel Vega, and that the brand used a square case shape when it began through Kickstarter. The case’s grille-like design is also an obvious source of its identity. A square racing chronograph will invite comparisons with the TAG Heuer Monaco, but the grille motif is the design cue Depancel foregrounds here; that resemblance does not establish a direct design link.
Case, fit and water resistance
The stainless-steel case is 36 mm wide by 40 mm long, excluding the lugs. Its 48.5 mm lug-to-lug measurement is the more useful figure for judging how far it may span a wrist, while the 13.3 mm thickness reflects its automatic chronograph construction. Monochrome and Fratello both give these dimensions in their 2024 coverage.

Fratello’s Jorg Weppelink, who wore the watch, found the profile less bulky than many automatic chronographs, while noting that the case may feel different on smaller wrists. That is an individual wearing impression, not a fit guarantee. The prominent color scheme is likewise not understated: Weppelink says the bright colors attract attention.
Water resistance is 5 ATM / 50 m. Fratello cautions that this is not a watch intended for underwater adventures. The watch has a sapphire crystal and a see-through sapphire caseback, as described in the review coverage.

Dial and chronograph layout
The blue dial combines a recessed central section and sunray finish with vertical engraving around the perimeter that evokes a grille. Applied luminous markers provide the hour indications. Orange accents animate the layout: the central chronograph seconds hand and the chronograph counters use the bright contrasting color, tying the display to the blue perforated leather strap and its orange stitching.
The watch displays hours and minutes, running small seconds, and chronograph timing through a central seconds hand with 30-minute and 12-hour registers. The orange hands and counters make the chronograph elements visually prominent, while the peripheral engraving gives the dial much of its distinctive texture.

Movement and the power-reserve discrepancy
The movement is the Peacock SL-4801, an automatic integrated chronograph. Monochrome describes it as using a column wheel and vertical clutch, with a transversal balance bridge; it runs at 4 Hz, or 28,800 vibrations per hour. Those are published specifications, not an independent assessment of long-term reliability or service experience.
For the original 2024 Tangerine, Monochrome and Fratello each report a 60-hour power reserve. Later material gives a different figure for other watches: Depancel’s page for the separate Black Tangerine says 55 hours, as does Monochrome’s 2026 Ice Blue article. Those later-edition figures should not be substituted for the original model’s reported specification.

Fratello’s Weppelink describes crisp-feeling start, stop and reset clicks, while noting that it was his first experience with the movement. Monochrome considers the case finishing a strong point for the price, but says the movement’s decoration and refinement fall short of the Rolex 4130 architecture it uses as a reference. That is Monochrome’s comparative assessment; it does not imply Rolex affiliation or equivalent quality.

The original Tangerine was limited to 300 pieces. Monochrome reported orders opening on 11 June 2024 at €995 or US$995, with delivery planned for December 2024; Fratello reported the same preorder date and planned delivery start, and a €995 price. These are historical launch terms, not a current quote.

Current stock, resale listings and market prices for the original blue-and-orange model are not established here. The official Depancel page available for the later Série-R01 Black Tangerine concerns a different edition: it says that watch is numbered to 100, sold out and will not be reproduced. It provides no evidence about the original 300-piece Tangerine’s present availability. The later model also received separate community-feedback coverage: Time+Tide reported more than 3,000 enthusiasts participating in its development, a figure that does not apply to the 2024 original.
Who is the original Tangerine for?
The Série-R Tangerine makes the most sense for someone drawn to a vivid, square racing chronograph and interested in an integrated automatic movement. Its compact width and 48.5 mm lug-to-lug dimension are useful starting points for fit, but the square form, 13.3 mm thickness and eye-catching dial should be considered together. The 50 m rating suits everyday splash exposure better than underwater use. Anyone shopping for one now should confirm that a listing is for the original blue-and-orange 2024 edition rather than the later Black Tangerine, and verify condition, completeness and asking price independently.
A replacement strap search should begin with the 22 mm lug width. The original is blue perforated leather with orange stitching and a steel pin buckle; check attachment and buckle compatibility before buying a substitute. Monochrome reports quick-release spring bars on the original, but that does not guarantee every 22 mm strap will fit the watch’s hardware.
