The IWC Ingenieur Automatic 40 IW328907 is the collection’s blue-dial stainless-steel model, announced on 2 December 2024. It pairs a 40 mm case and integrated H-link bracelet with a blue, stamped grid dial, IWC’s automatic calibre 32111 with a 120-hour power reserve, and a soft-iron inner case for magnetic protection.
What is the IWC Ingenieur IW328907?
IW328907 is the reference for the blue-dial version of the stainless-steel Ingenieur Automatic 40. IWC announced it on 2 December 2024 as an addition to the modern collection that began in 2023. Its design draws on the Ingenieur SL language associated with Gérald Genta’s 1970s redesign, while keeping the practical proportions and specifications of the current 40 mm line. IWC’s product page lists the model and its specifications.
How the blue dial and case are made
The blue dial is more than a flat color field: its grid pattern is stamped into a soft-iron base, then finished with blue PVD coating. Rhodium-plated hands and markers carry Super-LumiNova for visibility in low light. The soft-iron dial base is part of the watch’s magnetic-protection approach, alongside a soft-iron inner case.
The barrel-shaped stainless-steel case combines polished and satin-brushed surfaces. A raised bezel is held by five functional screws, and the integrated stainless-steel H-link bracelet closes with a butterfly folding clasp. Together, those elements retain the industrial, integrated-bracelet profile associated with the Ingenieur SL rather than making this a conventional round sports watch on a separate strap.

How it fits the Ingenieur’s history
IWC introduced the Ingenieur in 1955 as a civilian antimagnetic wristwatch. Gérald Genta’s 1970s redesign, especially the Ingenieur SL reference 1832, gave the family the integrated-bracelet and industrial-sports-watch identity that the contemporary 40 mm collection revisits. The blue IW328907 is therefore a new dial treatment within a design lineage, not a new watch family.

How the blue model compares with other Ingenieur 40 variants
IWC’s launch material identifies four neighboring references. The principal differences established here are dial color and material: the aqua, black, and silver-plated models are stainless steel, while the titanium version has a grey dial. The shared platform offers a useful way to narrow the choice; the blue model stands out for its colored grid dial while retaining the steel case and bracelet.
| Reference | Dial / case distinction | What is established |
|---|---|---|
| IW328907 | Blue dial; stainless steel | Blue PVD-coated stamped grid on a soft-iron base |
| IW328903 | Aqua dial; stainless steel | IWC identifies this as the aqua member of the lineup |
| IW328901 | Black dial; stainless steel | IWC identifies this as the black member of the lineup |
| IW328902 | Silver-plated dial; stainless steel | IWC identifies this as the silver-plated member of the lineup |
| IW328904 | Grey dial; titanium | IWC identifies this as the titanium/grey member of the lineup |
The launch information establishes those variant distinctions, but does not provide a complete side-by-side comparison of every dial construction or bracelet-finishing detail. The collection’s shared reference points for a buyer are the 40 mm format, integrated-bracelet design, calibre 32111 and 120-hour reserve, magnetic-protection construction, and 10-bar water-resistance rating; check the individual listing for any reference-specific specification before purchase. Is the blue Ingenieur 40 worth considering?
IW328907 makes the most sense for someone drawn to the Ingenieur’s integrated steel-bracelet design who wants a more visibly colored dial than black or silver. The stamped grid and blue finish give the dial a distinct identity, while the compact 40 mm case, 10.7 mm listed thickness, date, and five-day-class power reserve make its specification practical on paper for regular wear. IWC describes the model as “a versatile luxury sports watch for the 21st century” in its official journal.
Whether it is the right choice depends chiefly on the wrist feel of an integrated steel bracelet and preference for the distinctive bezel-and-grid design. The 40 mm measurement alone cannot establish fit across different wrists, and no independent hands-on assessment is implied here. Buyers comparing colors can choose among the named steel-dial variants, or the lighter-material distinction offered by the titanium/grey reference.
