The SLGC006 is a limited, automatic titanium chronograph with a larger case and 100 m reported water resistance; the SLGW007 is a slimmer, manually wound time-only watch with an approximately 80-hour reserve and a smaller dress-watch profile. The right choice depends chiefly on whether you want a chronograph and sportier wrist presence or a thin case and the daily ritual of winding.

How the movements and complications differ
SLGC006: automatic chronograph
The SLGC006 uses Grand Seiko’s automatic Hi-Beat 9SC5. In addition to the time and date, it measures elapsed time with a chronograph, including 30-minute and 12-hour registers, and has a tachymeter scale. Its automatic winding means ordinary wrist movement helps keep it running. The Tentagraph family’s stated reserve for the 9SC5 is approximately 72 hours.

SLGW007: manual-winding timekeeper
The SLGW007’s 9SA4 is a hand-wound, 10-beat-per-second movement with an approximately 80-hour reserve. It does not add a chronograph or date; the power-reserve indicator is on the back. Grand Seiko gives a movement mean daily rate of +5/-3 seconds per day and lists normal-use accuracy as +8/-1 seconds per day. Those are distinct specifications: the latter is the stated normal-use figure, not a second way of expressing the movement’s mean daily rate.
With no automatic winding, the SLGW007 asks its wearer to wind it by hand. That makes winding part of the ownership experience, while the longer stated reserve gives it more time off the wrist before it needs winding than the SLGC006’s approximately 72-hour reserve.

Which one wears better?
The measurements point to a substantial difference in wrist presence. At 43.2 mm wide and 15.3 mm thick, the SLGC006 is the larger, thicker watch; its 51.5 mm length also matters on smaller wrists. Its high-intensity titanium construction and chronograph layout give it a more overtly sporty character.
The SLGW007 measures 38.6 mm wide and 9.95 mm thick. It is the more compact and markedly thinner option, with a cleaner time-only dial, stainless-steel case and leather strap. Choose it if a low-profile watch that can sit more easily under a cuff is a priority. Case dimensions are a useful guide, but wrist shape and personal fit still determine comfort.
Water resistance and daily use
Independent specifications list 100 m water resistance for the SLGC006 and 30 m for the SLGW007. Grand Seiko’s official SLGW007 page describes that model’s resistance as splash resistant, so it is best treated as a watch for ordinary exposure rather than swimming. The SLGC006 offers more flexibility around water, but its specification is not a reason to ignore the maker’s care guidance or the condition of the watch’s seals.
For a watch likely to encounter frequent water exposure, the SLGC006 is the more practical of these two on the figures available. For desk, office and dress use, the SLGW007’s thinner case and leather strap better fit its intended character.

Design, price and scarcity
SLGC006: copper-pink sports chronograph
The Sunrise Tentagraph combines a copper-pink dial inspired by Mount Iwate with rose-gold-colored details and a high-intensity titanium case. Grand Seiko announced it on September 11, 2025, with a planned release date of October 10, 2025. The announced Japanese suggested retail price was ¥3,025,000, and production was limited to 300 pieces, 200 of them allocated to Japan. The announced release schedule is historical; availability now depends on the market and remaining stock.
SLGW007: moonlit navy dress profile
The SLGW007 pairs a navy textured dial inspired by white-birch bark in moonlight with a stainless-steel case and leather strap. Its official Japanese product page lists ¥1,342,000. Grand Seiko presents it as a regular Evolution 9 model rather than a limited edition.
On those Japanese prices, the SLGC006 launched at ¥1,683,000 more than the SLGW007, or a little over twice its listed price. That premium buys a chronograph, titanium construction, stronger reported water resistance and limited production—not a longer reserve or a smaller, more versatile case.
Which Grand Seiko should you choose?
- Choose the SLGC006 if you specifically want a chronograph, prefer an automatic movement, want the larger sports-watch presence, or value the higher reported water resistance and limited production.
- Choose the SLGW007 if you want a thinner, smaller-profile watch, prefer hand-winding, value its approximately 80-hour stated reserve, or want the less expensive option at the listed Japanese prices.
The SLGC006 is not simply an upgraded SLGW007: it is a different kind of watch, with extra functions and a more imposing build. The SLGW007 is not a budget version of the Tentagraph; its appeal is the restrained profile and the hands-on connection of a manual movement. The premium is worthwhile when those chronograph and sport-watch qualities are the reason you are buying. If you mainly want a refined everyday timepiece, the SLGW007 makes the more direct case.
