Jaeger-LeCoultre announced two steel Reverso Tribute Duoface Small Seconds editions on April 1, 2025: black-dial reference Q398847J and blue-dial reference Q3988481. Both pair a conventional front display with a second time zone on the reverse; the documented differences are chiefly dial color, finish and matching straps.
What changed on the black and blue Reverso Tribute Duoface Small Seconds?
The new references share the same case, hand-wound movement, dual-time display and basic specification. Their main distinction is the front dial: the black version has a sunray finish, while the blue version uses sunray lacquer. Both have a silver-color sunray reverse dial with elongated double-line indices, a redesign the brand describes as sleeker and more contemporary.
Jaeger-LeCoultre presents the editions as a tribute to early Reverso dials and the design language of the original 1931 watch. That is the manufacturer’s framing of the design, rather than an independently verified historical assessment.

The published specifications establish no meaningful mechanical difference between the two. The choice is therefore chiefly a matter of which dial and strap pairing suits the wearer.

How does the Duoface second time zone work?
The front dial shows hours, minutes and small seconds. Turn the swivelling case to reveal the reverse dial, which displays the second time zone and includes a 24-hour indicator to distinguish day from night.
According to Jaeger-LeCoultre, the crown adjusts the minutes on both dials and the hours on the front. A small slider set into the top case-band adjusts the second time zone’s hours. The brand says the slider is concealed while the watch is closed in its carriage and becomes accessible when the case is released to flip.

The manufacturer lists 160 components for Calibre 854 and 50 components for the swivelling case. These are Jaeger-LeCoultre’s published figures for the 2025 editions.
What distinguishes the blue lacquer dial?
The blue edition’s front dial is made with 24 layers of colored and transparent lacquer, according to the manufacturer. Jaeger-LeCoultre says the layered process adds visual depth and permanently fixes the color. The black dial, by comparison, is specified as black sunray.

On the reverse, both versions use a silver-color sunray-brushed background and elongated double-line indices. That common reverse treatment gives the pair a shared look when the case is turned, despite the different front colors.
